If you are indeed 32-bit: Open the AVG interface. On the Toolbar select Tools>Advanced Settings. In the appearing window on the left side click on the plus in front of Update. Click on Manage. On the appearing right panel select the lower bar Revert Virus Database to Previous Version. If all goes well and the problem was only a corrupt dat file this could resolve your concern. However, if the concern is a by-product of the recent version upgrade you will have to remove AVG entirely and re-install. Be sure to use the removal tool. If you had no problems until recently I wouldn't go back to v9. The prior version before the recent upgrade, 10.0.1191, should be just fine. Da Here is a link that might be useful: AVG 10.0.1191

Morz if you also have Windows XP you should consider installing Skype on both computers. Then get Mum a set of headphones so you can talk and walk her through the procedure - or any other problem while both of you are in front of your computers. Then you can keep up by showing the same page on your own computer. I use this quite often when helping folks. Having said that back to the issue. Have Mum install Crap Cleaner, linked below. Before using it go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the AVG install. Now run Crap Cleaner with the default settings to get those corrupt files off the machine and then do your install. If you or Mum are concerned about Crap Cleaner (it is a brilliant little freebie actually) you can create a Restore Point before moving forward so you can go back if necessary. Hello EmmaR, 1. In Firefox, click Tools. 2. In Tools, click Options. 3. In Options, click Advanced. 4. In Advanced, click Update. 5. Under Update, click "Ask me what I want to do". 6. Click OK. That's it! If you ever want to change Firefox back to automatic updates, just do steps 1-4 and under Updates, click "Automatically download and install update" instead. Thanks so much for letting us know. I was getting an error messages that said "Connection to the update server has failed". I wasn't sure if it was AVG or my computer. I'll wait until it's fixed and try again. Dee
