Faucet placement help needed

Thanks for the replies to my earlier post about remodeling woes. :) I feel a bit better about everything and have decided to keep the kitchen cabinet vanity because those are the cabinets we put in the master closet, and I think we can make a small step that pulls out of the toe kick. These will give us a lot of storage.

One item I'm still not sure of is the faucet placement on our tub. We were originally going to have holes drilled in the corner of the tub for the faucet, but have been told that with the Americast tub, that's not a good idea.

The only other option is to put it on the small deck top, right next to the side of the cabinet. I don't love this idea because you have to crane your arm a little (around the side of the cabinet). However, we really don't take baths that much, so it's not the end of the world.

What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions? I might be able to have it be the faucet be slightly off-center (so it's a little more towards the front) but not a lot.

I'm struggling with the same decision. It isn't obvious to me which is the drain end of the tub. If it is by the shower, then placing the faucets next to the vanity would put them right into your back as you bathed. If it is the other end, then it seems like the vanity end would be the logical and convenient place. Is putting them as a wall mount on the long wall a possibility? You'd have to redo the sheetrock, but they'd not be in your back. You'd have to reach over the tub to turn them on, but it doesn't look like the tub is too wide to reach easily.

The drain is on the end next to the vanity. The faucet is going to go on the small deck area between the tub and the vanity. I just can't figure out where to put them on the deck.

could you maybe angle it towards the middle but place it closer to one end than the other so it isn't sticking so far into the tub? the water could still flow out at the middle of the tub, but maybe have the actual hole for the filler be farther up towards one end? if it swivels, you could push it out of the way once the tub is filled as well. also, try thinking about placing the 4 parts (filler, hot & cold, spray) separately & see what ideas you come up with. i have a different tub but similar style & have my hot/cold on the opposite end from my filler since there was not enough room for all three on either end. lisa

Is it possible to put the spout and levers on to the half wall of the shower? Maybe you could build it up enough to have them coming out of the wall directly over the tub. Not sure where your plumbing access is though and if drain is on other end maybe you could mount them on that wall?

Hit submit too soon! I would place the faucet over the divide and the handle on which ever side works best for you...if you're right handed, probably the right side; left handed, the left side. The SD could then go in the corner of either the other side or the same side...depending on where the larger bowl is (assuming a small/large bowl configuration). The problem with putting the SD the same distance as the faucet on the opposite side of the handle is that it could be too close to the faucet and/or crowd the smaller bowl...but maybe it will work for you. I would do a quick mock-up to see what looks best to you. Try pantomiming working there as well to see how the setup will work. Play with it until it feels right and looks best.

I don't think she mentioned a sprayer. When you say water dispenser are you referring to filtered cold water or an instant hot or something else? Many people don't have a separate sprayer (I don't) because they use a pull down or pull out faucet. If that is all you are going to have and you can't get rid of the air gap I think the placement is fine. The water dispenser, whatever kind it is, next to the larger sink will let you use it to fill pitchers and larger pots by putting them in the larger sink. My only change would be if you have any intention of removing the air gap in the future and putting in a soap dispenser instead, in which case I would put that the left and the dispenser on the right. I have mine that way because I want the soap dispenser on the "working" side of the sink and not over the part where I would be putting clean dishes to drain. It would help if you gave more information on what you are putting there. What type of faucet with how many holes? What type of water dispenser? Is the air gap mandatory and if so will it stay an air gap later? Sue

Why not place the faucet assembly in the space between the tub and the vanity but not on center, close to where you stand, so no craning around the vanity?
I am not sure I see many other options that would be any closer. It is not uncommon that a faucet in off-center in one way or another anyway...

You also could put the spout in the center so it doesn't have so far to reach over the edge of the tub, with the handles out toward the front edge so they are easier to reach. That was a suggestion my plumber made and there is another post here today with a photo of separate controls and spout. If you are having a hand-held you could put it at the far end of your space to provide some balance, or just cluster it with the handles.
