Picasa and Irfanview, I use them both as a tinkerer. It just depends on what I am doing. Both are so simple even I can do it.

Another vote for Irfanview. Before you decide on a download, can you not edit images in the Windows Live Photo Gallery? I think(?)it comes installed with Windows 7.

I prefer photoscape over picassa check it out it's free too..I'm using photoscape for years..

if you want easy and not have to install anything on your pc try picnik I have used it for a long time it will do all the things you ask and more very easy to use.

The picture is very nice, but if you are resizing it to post it's a little large. It's 1077 pixels wide so it's wider than my screen resolution which is 1024 and that means I have to scroll horizontally to view it or any long posts before or after it in the thread and the file size is 320.48 KB. That's a little large for the people stuck with a dial up connection. It was simple to use Irfanview to resize it to 800 pixels wide with a file size of 48.92 KB.

That will fit on almost anyone's screen with scrolling and the file size is suitable for viewers on dial up without degrading the appearance.

Thanks for the offer DA. I need all the help I can get. And thanks for the wake up call Shax. I've been up for quite a while but not fully awake until I saw that.
I'm a little sensitive about file size I guess. I can remember watching graphics load line by line on a DUN. I'm lucky now to have a very fast connection but a lot of people don't have that choice.

Wow Shax, you don't need an alarm system. I like big pictures they show more detail.

The problem on graphic loaded threads is avatars, over-sized pictures, fancy signatures, cartoons, etc. can cause difficulty, delay, and pure frustration for DUN members, low end "high-speed" members and those with unreliable/varying speeds. Not all members have reliable middle to high end dsl or cable. So for as long as I can remember members as a courtesy whenever possible have reduced pictures and refrained from loading up posts with graphics. When a member cancels viewing a thread because the thread takes too long to load or doesn't load all members lose.

Big is good as as long as the file size is not too large and the picture is not too wide. Shax' picture is 800 pixels wide and the file size is 84.15 KB both of which are great for posting.

Right you are Bob. An individual picture of 100kb or less is suitable as long as they don't amass on the thread causing it to bog down.

I set my photos at Irfanview's lowest setting 640, I think. I agree with to many graphics. Shax's photo did not cause me to scroll sidewise. I visit one site that is way over loaded, the problem for me is the amount of scrolling "down" all the time. It is hard to tell where one post ends and the other begins. I just right click and ad a filter and it goes away. I did that to all the photos on that site. It was much easier to get around in.
