I have always done quite a bit of canning at peak times and I haven't had it cause any burner problems or anything, but then I don't can CONSTANTLY like some of the folks on the Harvest Forum do. On the old stove, it is only the oven that has gone out, so we are going to hang on to it a while....just put it out in the garage/barn. I am not sure about canning on the new stove, and need to do some research (and quickly!). I've thought about getting a big turkey fryer and using it to do my canning....lots of people do that so they can do the canning outside and avoid heating up the house. Speaking of not heating up the house.....one of our neighbors lives in a home his relatives built in 1912. I love that old house! The kitchen is so large you could live in it alone! They have a separate "summer kitchen" about 60' from the main house, and it is the only home around here with a summer kitchen still standing, although I don't think they've used it as a summer kitchen in many years. I'd love to have a summer kitchen. I AM real excited about the convection oven. We never would have spent the money to get a stove this fancy at regular retail prices (living on one income, we've learned to be pretty thrifty). Getting it at the outlet store, though, saved us about 30% and it was brand new--not used/returned/repaired like some of them are (described on their tags as "reconditioned"). It had "damage".....a scratch on the side that you won't see because that side sits next to a wall, so it was a terrific deal. That scratch was the only thing "wrong" with it, and I can't believe a 4" long scratch saved us hundreds of dollars. I suspect the new stove is smarter than all of us humans. For example, I can set it on the convection mode and tell it I am going to bake a cake at 375 degrees (the temperature given on the cake recipe). The stove then will automatically adjust the temperature downward as needed since a convection oven cooks more quickly. I also could adjust it manually, but will just let the stove's brain figure it out! It also has a warming drawer which our older stove did not. While we were at the Sears outlet store, I was drooling over some of the French Door refrigerators with the freezer compartment on the bottom. I also saw some new ultra-modern and gorgeous stainless steel freezers. Now, I don't need a new refrigerator or freezer yet, but I know what I do want when (and if) either one of them ever die. Dawn

If you have an LCD monitor, it has a native resolution and you should use ONLY that resolution. If you trying to change something, like the size of your desktop icons, there are other was to do that. Old CRT monitors typically have a range of resolutions but most don't support every resolution and refresh rate. You'd have to check the owner's manual for supported resolutions. When you change the resolution in Windows you typically have to click "accept" or the change reverts to the previous setting automatically. What's happening now, you have no display or is everything just wacky?

Thanks, here's some updates done last night and this morning. But first, owbist, what is "WOT"... I'm an old guy and don't read some of the "text messaging" shorthand, or I'm an old guy and just forgot what I used to know WOT to mean. Yes, I'm running 64 bit. I think I will uninstall RegCure. After posting last night I did the necessary back up to an off line HDD, then I tried a restore. While setting that up it was shown that MS had done an update at 10:40 PM, during the time RegCure was scanning - related? Could be. I have changed Windows Update from Automatic to ask for my approval. In any event the restore to last MS Update failed, some program was not available (or busy, forget what the detail was) so I ran a normal shut down and went to bed. This morning the system booted what looked to be normal, so I tried again to do a restore so I could record what the restore change was, it was: Windows Defender Defs KB915597, still only a possible cause, no proof other than time. While in the restore setup I asked for a "scan for affected programs" none were detected. I went forward with the restore and it came up with a driver: TI105238WOE (or 0E) (C:) System. This time the restore completed successfully, DON'T ASK, just be happy. I then went back to update and had the Defender Defs (re)installed. All seems to be fine as I do this typing. I do run Advanced System Care every few days and it does some type of Registry Check, maybe that's enough checking of the Registry. I do think, however, the problem was the running of a windows update (hence Registry changes) at the same time that RegCure was scanning.

this is a suggestion, maybe you can take the side off the tower and take some pictures of the inside especially the fan you suspect to be the culprit and someone here can then have a better idea what exactly it is you are dealing with and you can take a picture of the one your bought or the package. There are very good picture tutorials online on how to replace fans but as stated working with power supplies can be very dangerous. The other fans are not that difficult to replace. Personally I would consider replacing the entire power supply on a pc that old since it will likely go bad soon anyway and is probably much less powerful than the ones used today so you could upgrade to a much better power supply and that task is easier to take on. here is a step by step with pics for replacing a power supply fan.
