Any ideas about what to do with gallstones during pregnancy??

Well I think we finally figured out while I have been feeling so sick all the time. I went in for an abdomenal ultrasound this morning and the doctor just called and told me that I have gallstones which are causing my nausea and pain. I don't know if I can handle this right now. I am currently having an attack, not knowing that I had the gallstones I ate a cheeseburger and french fries for lunch. I am sure paying for it right now, I feel like throwing up and have so much pain.

What is really upsetting is that I had my tubes tied so that I wouldn't have any more babies, and here I am facing my 3rd trimester and miserable with pain and upset stomach and feel like throwing up everytime I eat. If I wouldn't have gotten pregnant, then I wouldn't have to worry about this.

So has anyone else had this problem?? Any advice or ideas about what to do to make the next 12 weeks bearable, ( then I have to wait 6 weeks until they can do surgery on the gallbladder.)?? Any ideas would be helpful.

All I can tell you is donÂt eat anything with any amount of fat in it. Just eat fruit and veggies for the next few days and then add just one thing that has a little fat, avocado, salmon, and see how it goes. Stay away from mayo, sour cream, milk, butter, anything dairy.

I had my gallbladder out but before I knew what the problem was I was in horrible pain every time I ate anything. Once diagnosed I cut out all fat, especially the dairy, and was pain free until the surgery.

Sorry you have to go through this. You have so much going on but you have to take care of yourself. This probably would have happened even if you were not pregnant. Who knows!

Follow Claudia's advice! I had the same thing happen to me, and you will want to have the surgery asap because nursing often caused attacks (at least in my case). Hang in there - it's relatively minor surgery and you'll feel 100% better once it's over. Sorry you're having to deal with this.

The store cat where I work wonders around the nursery "talking" to customers and to us. She'll get started meowing and just won't stop till she has everyone's attention and at least 1 or 2 people petting her. She's a domestic long hair cat that was born to a feral mom under one of the out buildings. At home I have a short haired tabby that lies on the bed and meows. She sounds like she's in pain, but there's no way she's in pain, it's just that she's talking loud so we can all hear, I guess. She'll stop if we come back to check on her, but then start up again when we leave the room. I never have figured out what that's all about, other than just seeing how much she can manipulate us - which is a lot, by the way. lol It sounds like your kitty is just making sure everything is safe and sound before he settles down for the night. I wonder if wild cats do this kind of thing? I bet they do. Sally

Drat that morning sickness! Blech! I easily ate eggs all my life growing up, scrambled, over easy, omelettes, hard boiled etc. Became pregnant with number #1, and one of the few things I could eat was eggs. Craved them. After he was born, I couldn't eat an egg without feeling ill, and I'd brush my teeth over and over to try to get the 'taste' of the egg out. When I became pregnant with #2, I wanted eggs again and could eat them again...until I came home with #2 and fixed me up an egg to eat because I was hungry, and after I wanted to puke. Haven't been able to eat eggs since. Neither kid will eat them. And milk, I drank a litre or more a day, would wake up in the morning after dreaming of drinking milk straight from the taps in the house. Weird. #1 Loves milk (has to be chocolate now tho'). With #2 I could barely get a glass of milk down a day, did it only because I had to, but loved fruit and juices. #2 favors fruit and juices. Also ate lots of peanut butter with #2, and now #2 enjoys peanut butter. I didn't eat any peanut butter with #1, and guess what - he won't touch the stuff! Here's hoping the taste buds and cravings get back to normal for you (and baby).

If it's the NT (Nuchal Translucency) screening she's having done, it's totally normal. I wondered the same thing when they did it with Camryn because I didnt have it with Grant. My doctor, who I trust with my life, said it's new in that they're making it a routine part of pregnancy testing now. It's kinda replacing the AFP testing they do about halfway through pregnancy. Tell your DIL not to worry AT ALL. It's completely routine.

I had an angel of a carpenter who cut the old sink and a small section of countertop out together, and built a 2x4 base for it. He made temporary plumbing connections and left it in place for me to use most evenings, when work was done for the day. When it was in the way of the work, it was disconnected and moved around. I don't suppose every crew would be willing to bother with this (in fact, the carpenter and the GC had a friendly but spirited discussion about the time that was taken to do it) but perhaps it's worth asking. It beats washing dishes in a tub or bathroom sink, by a mile. We set up our temporary kitchen in a wide hallway next to the kitchen, a few steps from the bathroom and thus the water source. On one side of the hallway, in a recessed niche we put the refrigerator and a table. The table held the coffeemaker, microwave, and a toaster oven stacked on top of the microwave. The crockpot lived on top of the fridge, when not in use. Under the table we put the garbage, recycling, and a tub for dirty dishes. On the other side of the hallway is a large linen cupboard. I banished the sheets and towels to a bedroom closet, and used the shelves for dishes and dry food storage. It worked quite well, and some fine meals came out of that hallway kitchen. If I did it again (heaven forbid!) I'd add a portable induction burner.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. What does your doctor think you need to do about it? I would follow his advice.

I had a friend have the surgery and go on vacation the next day, so I know it is relatively minor nowdays with microsurgery. But in the meantime, take care of yourself Stacie. Two pregnancies in two years is a lot of stress on your body, you're not superwoman, get help and rest whenever you can!!

Like Beverly says, follow your docs advice.
I lived with it for 8 yrs and finally had to have emerg surgery.
4 days in hosp, not so minor, but not like it was yrs ago.
No fats, no spicy...sorry you have to go through this while pregnant.

Zero fat. Bland. Sorry, Stacie, this really sucks. I had to eat fat-free for a month or so, had my gallbladder out when he was 4 months old. I know it was bad for me, can't imagine going through it pregnant.

But yeah, the doc told me zero fat. But my liver enzymes were high, bad. I could have ended up having emergency surgery if I hadn't laid off the fat.

You can't seem to catch a break these days, Stacie. Will keep you in my thoughts.

I am hanging in there best that I can. I haven't figured out which of the meds they are giving me but I am having a reaction to one of them. If I could get some energy that would be great. I have just been exhausted lately and I have 2 and a half months to go until this baby comes. It will be long. With DH in school now, I am alone with the kids most of the time and have some one that comes over one day a week to help but the meds leave me feeling pretty loopy and tired. I need some energy quick lol. We walked around the carnival and festival yesterday for a few hours and after 3 hours I was so shot I couldn't believe it. So far by watching my diet I have only had a couple attacks this week so not too bad. Just think of me and hope I make it through the next few months.

Smoothies with soy milk! I eat them a lot, love 'em. I use frozen fruit, soy milk and yogurt. There is soy yogurt, or you can do without that part. My favorite is strawberry, orange juice, banana and peach. Kiwi pineapple is another favorite.

Any chance you could find a neighbor kid to play with the gang for a few hours after school to give you a rest? My mom did that when we were kids, hired a babysitter for a few hours while she was home. We looked forward to it and loved it! Of course that was back in the days when a babysitter cost .50 per hour.

I do have someone that comes in on Thursday's to help with the kids. She also does some cleaning and laundry for me. I have Dr.'s appointments every 2 weeks from now on out so have made those on Thursday's so I don't have to take the kids with me. Last week was the first time, and it was nice to have someone entertain the kids and help with picking up. I got to go and pick peaches, apples and pears to make baby food for the new little one and pick up groceries without 3 helpers in tow. My mil also offered to come over once a week and my mom has been trying to come up once a week. So even though it is going to be a long 2 and a half months the help will be appreciated. I tried in May to find someone to come in during the week for a few days or afternoons and couldn't find anyone interested in helping out, even high school girls or college girls home for the summer. I will post picks, but I am so big this time around and my stomach is hard as a rock and stretching like crazy, I hate to think of how much extra skin I will have after the baby is born. After the baby is born, I will have to wait 6 weeks and have to have gallbladder surgery and will be out of commission for a few more weeks. I am definately not looking foreward to 2 surgeries so close together, but I am not going to keep dealing with the gallbladder attacks if I don't have to.
