One web page set to IE,

and I can't figure out how to get it reset to FF.

I had to use IE on the Lily Auction web site last summer in order to get my photobucker to copy a pic to my set up page on the the LILY AUCTION. (Don't ask me why, it's just the way I finally got it to work)

Now I want to try and see if it will transfer photo's from photobucket to the Lily Auction using FF but I can't get it to go back to FF. I use FF for everything else. I've read all the Vista and FF info pages but still can't figure it out.

I mean no disrespect, but I'd be lyin' if I said i know what this means. If IE works and FF does not, why not just use IE and be done with it?

I have one of my email accounts with my ISP. I currently can receive mail but not send it. I am sure the problem is with a setting. I need to get to the ISP website to look up the proper settings. My phone company is a co-op. I don't think they merge with anyone. They have been here to stay since 1953. Locally owned. I did manage to connect using a proxy service. it is probably one of the many ads that are on these pages that are triggering that cpu spike with IE 6 something in IE is not working properly with the ad. I was having major problems here also due to the ads and had to break down and put ad block plus on my firefox just to get this site to work right. It is very very ad heavy to say the least.

Thanks pkponder..He is going to call me back later I will tell him to try this. Yes it is a pretty new problem. He said when he shut off his computer Sunday night all was ok...then Monday he was trying to do a Google search on a subject and got IE's error...then he tried typing in other sites and same thing. He then tried his Favorites and they all work...I am going to tell him to type in an address of one of his Favs and see what happens then ..can't hurt...LOL.. jackie

Do you have the Firefox extension ie view that lets you always open a page in IE? If so you may need reset that.

owbist..that was a great idea to copy and paste the addy into FF but unfortunately it won't work. It flipped right back over to IE

bob414...yes there is an extension that says "always open this page in IE" but that is on the FF pages, on the IE page there is no such extension. That is how I set that web site to open in IE to began with.

You didn't say, if you use FF as your default browser when is the last time you deleted all your IE temp files and cookies? If you haven't something may be directing the site to IE.

Maybe you need to go to your firefox add ons and under ie view click on options and remove the site from the list of sites that you have set to always open in ie.

damccoy Yes FF is my default browser. I just can't figure out how to get that one web page out of IE and back to FF.

In the "internet options" part of the IE page, I have the settings to delete temp files when browser is closed so I don't think that would be an issue.

When you say it flipped right back to IE, are you saying that even though you typed the url into the FF address bar it somehow opened in IE?

How do you go to that site? Do you have a shortcut that you double click? If so, maybe the shortcut properties are set to use IE. If you're using a shortcut (maybe on the desktop), right click and select properties. Let us know what the properties are.

bpgreen, yes that is what it does, I typed the url into the FF address bar and it opened in IE.

yes i have a shortcut set up for that site, it's on my keyboard. If I open the web site and right click and get 'properties' I get this:

PROTOCOL: Hypertext transfer protocol

CONNECTION: Not encrypted

then it has size and date created

does any of this help?

Did you follow my suggestion above to remove it from the list of sites you have set to open in ie. I don't see how you can open it if firefox if a firefox extension has firefox set to open it in ie.

clearing the cache on IE has nothing to do with firefox you must clear them in firefox also, are you using the latest version of firefox? to know the version at the top click on help and about firefox.
To clear the cache in firefox look under tools and see if you have an option there that says clear recent history near the bottom of the list, if yes click that and a box opens asking what all you want to clear I clear everything but the site preferences on mine also at the top of that box is a time range with a drop down arrow you can choose everything.
The other way to do it is go to Tools Preferences/options then the security tab check where it says clear history when firefox closes then over to the right click on settings in that box select what you want to clear you can then close firefox and open it and it will clear all that you selected, now if you do not want it to do that every time you close firefox go back in there and un check to do it every time firefox closes, or just select for it to clear the cache each time it closes which is what I do.

I agree with Bob414 it sounds like you have that page set to always open in IEview in your firefox browser you have to change that setting or it will continue to do that.

SUCCESS!!!

THANK YOU BOB414...that was it. I found the list to delete the IE set up to 'always open that page' in IE. I did the delete then I opened the web page in question and it opened in FF.

So simple, but if you don't know where to find stuff like that it can drive up up the wall.

raven, thanks for the info on the settings. I went in and changed the settings to the ones that you said you used. I figure that if you had yours set that way I probably would be in good shape to have mine set the same.
