Getting pop-ups and web pages when closing out from IE.

For the past few days I've been getting weird popups (e.g., Zwinky(?) and the IQ test thing plus some others). Spybot and my AVG virus scan show nothing infected. Pop-up blocker was turned off but I turned it back on. I also get the XP Professional message for DEP error protection on websites that I use fairly often (Cooks.com for exxample). Anybody else experiencing this and does anybody have a solution? Thanks!

Maybe a malwarebytes would help.

you definitely need to download the free malwarebytes update it and run full scan let it clean what it finds.

LMAO...I remember when someone asked you (Remy) what browser you were using, and your reply was that you didn't know what a browser was... I too use/love Firefox...isn't it great? I like the ability to easily open so many tabs at once...maybe even opening my GW favs folder...25 all at once. Sure helps on dial-up to have a page loaded and waiting for me when I get to it. it kind of sucks to have to load a new program just to avoid annoying ads I agree, but you can beat them at their own game. Karyn, You'll probably like Firefox too. It is said that IE is the least 'secure' of all browsers. My experience with it, is that it is a lot slower...really notice 'slowness since I'm on dial-up. Sue, If you are deleting your cookies every time that you close your IE that could be contributing to the delay in loading. GW is now so graphic/ad laden that the cookies would have to reload each time. It is similar to FF with ABP. If you watch the progress bar you can see all the "content' attempting to load and being blocked before the page actually appears. DLM, Originally there were numerous reports of concerns with the SP3 upgrade. Through time this has appeared to have been resolved. I just upgraded two systems to XP SP3 for individuals without any concern. You just have to be patient as the installer does its job. As always backup what is important to you before taking the task in hand. DA

it is probably one of the many ads that are on these pages that are triggering that cpu spike with IE 6 something in IE is not working properly with the ad. I was having major problems here also due to the ads and had to break down and put ad block plus on my firefox just to get this site to work right. It is very very ad heavy to say the least.

I use the Sea Monkey browser and it has a small plug in called Adblock . It blocks most pop ups by blocking the content from displaying. You might want to try it. Thanks bbbluz and ravencajun! Followed up withy the Malwarebytes suggestion and it did find 47 infected files that both Spybot & AVG did not. So far things seem to be back to normal.

I would update(hit update before running each time) and run it daily for a week or so to make sure nothing returns I would also do this online scan.

Good suggestions on the updates as well as the anti virus.
I'd also recommend doing a registry scan/clean. That is how alot of the little bot programs hide themselves..can scan for free too like the antivirus

I suggest you do not do a registry clean up!!! ESPECIALLY with the link provided above.

That member only joined yesterday, possibly with the sole purpose of promoting that program to earn a commission.
