Java will not install

I have Windows XP. and am using firefox browser

I have been working since noon trying to get Photobucket to upload my photos. Photobucket sent me an email of a list of things to try. One was to be sure I had the latest Java. I did not so I followed their instructions to uninstall my old and install the new one. Mine hadn't been updated for two years.

Java will not install. I turned of my firewall. Under tools for Firefox listed Java address to allow these installations.

I got the java downloaded clicked to install got the Welcome to Java page says to install to begin installing. Then a popup says Downloading installer and this is where it stops. Does not even try to install. I printed out the setup info for Java says the installer may present you with option but nothing happens. help help

If you look in Add/Remove Programs, you may have old Java installs or updates. Uninstall all of them, and then try installing the current Java. Let us know if it works.

You might want to download the Offline version and then install it from your hard drive rather than doing an online install.

Dont intstall until After uninstalling all older versions in add/remove programs.

Follow Ups to Questions 2: The entire construction process was probably 8 weeks elapsed. There were holidays, weather problems, you name it. The actual schedule was bizarre. A week or so of demo in March, an unexpected 6 month hiatus, then back again for November & December and final details in January. The time after demo turned out to be a good thing as we changed many items and even the actual design - all for the better. The room dimensions are a bit irregular. The area of marble floor is 7ft x 7ft. The tub is 3 ft wide, so the room more or less is 7x10 (not including the little alcoves at the head of the tub and shower areas). The ceiling height is a little over 9 ft. The JVI light is "large" and the bottom is probably at 6'9" or so (we made sure all contractors' heads cleared). We removed several links of chain to get the right height. Not sure the large light would work with an eight foot ceiling looking at it now. One of the other similar styles would do the trick though. As for the Amma, I didn't notice the slope to be all that different - but I might not have been paying attention. This only a 66" tub - not a lot of room. What I did notice is the curved back. For me, the flat back was not as comfortable as the curve. The other things that I looked for in my search were arm rests and grab bars. These two items I use every time I get in or out. Randy FF just upgraded when I rebooted.. Jeb IE won't work at all.. it does load but thats all I can get it to do. I hate the thought of maybe having format this stupid machine LOL...Stupid but can't do without it.. I have so many things for Paint shop pro I couldn't save them all. that is one of the major complaints of java that it does not remove old vulnerable versions when it updates. The best and easiest way is to get this very neat little program called javara it has a button you push and voila it clean out all the old bits and pieces that are safe to remove. this is what we give as the directions on the help forums. Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop. * Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program. * Click on Remove Older Versions to remove older versions of Java. * A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location, such as your desktop, in case we need to see it later. Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7. (Note: Java Runtime Environment JRE SE 6, Update 10 does not include any security updates and I am not recommending it at this time. Stick with Update 7 if possible.) JavaRa you do not need to keep the log but you can look at it to see just what was done.

Found a Bunch of folks who were having the same problem (exactly) as you are having. Apparently the following instructions cleared up the problem for almost everyone. I took the liberty of copying and pasting what I found below. I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it's worth a try. (These were ALL Youtube users) Go To: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19166&sl... The page title is "Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player Installation for Windows" click on #3, Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer. Scroll down to just above question #4 and find the bold print that reads: "If the activeX control for Flash Player fails to install, download the executable installer" Click on download, save to desktop, then install. Finally the offline version worked thanks for the information on this. It took 3 1/2 hours to download it but I now have the Java going. Too bad this what not the problem with photobucket.

if you have not updated java in 2 years you really need to be sure you are running some malwarebytes scans because you sure have been open to some serious vulnerabilities with those old versions on your pc.
I would use the secunia tool and see what else you need to update.

in firefox check to make sure you do not have your photobucket site on the restricted list. Tools>options>privacy tab >accept cookies from sites then to the right click on exceptions in that box make sure photobucket is allowed and not in the blocked list.
Also do you use adblock plus add on in firefox? you might try turning it off when trying the photobucket site it may be interfering somehow. Just go to the red stop sign ABP and right click on it and choose disable on this page only.

definitely follow the directions in my earlier post right above this one and do those scans
