Can't play CNN videos

There are two of us who use this pc-separate accounts- but only one can play the videos on CNN. What's up with that?!! One gets the error-

Why is one getting the error when we use the same pc? Is it something to do with java? I can't seem to find the java console- it is installed somewhere. I've check many settings and they seem to be all the same unless I'm missing something. An example of the video is:

CNN Videos run on Adobe flash player not Java.

Yes same as firefox 3----- no it will not replace IE6 you will just have an extra browser an that's good to have for trouble shooting like now. The only time IE6 is replaced is if you install another IE browser. Like IE7 OR IE8 So give it a shot nothing to loose and maybe things to gain.

I'm not an expert so probably can't help but... I think you have enough speed you shouldn't even need to let it buffer, but know how to do so, so it's probably not Internet speed. Your system seems fine specification-wise. To me anyway. I don't think or know much about video cards but I wouldn't think it would be the physical card, but I don't really know. My wild guess would be the driver. :) This is what mine shows when I go to "System settings"--->"Additional Drivers": If it were me, I'd try a different driver if there's any listed there. Maybe you already have? Other than that, I don't have a clue. I'm running 12.04 and youtube's and other videos play fine for me. If someone else here doesn't have the answer, there's always the Ubuntu forum. Just a thought. Probably the format you burned is not the correct DVD format. PCs can play lots of formats, DVD players often can't. Test in another DVD player, if it doesn't work there either there's no need to call customer service.

A lot of interesting scientific stuff, simply explained, at CBC Radio One at "www.cbc.ca/quirks". Also use "ideas", "tapestry", "thecurrent", "sundaymorning", "vinylcafe" or "dispatches" after the "/". There's a two-hour nation-wide phone-in relating to a current issue in the news, public affairs, etc. every Sunday at 4 ... I think that you can get some of the earlier ones at "www.cbc.ca/checkup" ... and if you go to the CBC website from 4:00 - 6:00 Eastern on Sunday afternoon, you can participate in an online discussion related to the Chross-country Checkup topic of that afternoon. ole joyful

What about flash player go to that account that is having the issue an download it links above,

That's all i can think of unless it's an admin account vrs a limited account thing???????

Ok, went on his acct and downloaded flash- still no go- this is really strange- other videos play ok- just not the ones on CNN-thank for trying.

FWIW;

I had a flash problem with a particular site. It was FLASH has a known problem with one of the stream standards/streaming methods, and not all firewalls will pass it even after explicitly configured for it.

Even when I set the ports to allow, it takes 30 seconds or so to start streams. Its a know problem and Adobe has a page on it that says tuff luck until they figure it out. I have to lower my router firewall settings a notch just to able to start flash streams from certain sites that use one version of their FLASH streaming server.

Not saying its your problem ,, but was mine on at least one site I frequent so I have my router firewall sitting on minimum because of Adobe/Flash.

My daughter has problems playing videos using Firefox on a shared computer. I use my account and can play them.

I found out that the difference is that she never completely shuts Firefox unless there's a reboot. And if there is a reboot, she always says to restore prior session. One time, we saved all her tabs, restarted Firefox and said to start a new session (or whatever the second choice is). After that, the videos played for her.

certain sites have issues and there are greasemonkey scripts for those that have firefox and the greasemonkey add on which will let those play. I have had to add on greasemonkey and some of the scripts to be able to view some of the news sites videos.
