Towel Hook Opinion Please

Please look at the towel hook on the second row, second towel hook. Do you think towels will stay on it? Do any of you have one similar to this? Suggestions?

You mean the sandcast bronze 3 hook with rectangular plate?

Looks like a lesson in frustration to me.

We are using Robe Hooks and love it for the towels. After coming in from the hot tub grab your towel hang up your robe and off to the shower. Just another thought for you to consider.

Looking at the faucet style, I think the 2nd hook is better. Do the 2nd and 3rd hooks match - one is a single and one a double? If so go for it. But I'm not sure if you'll need a double towel hook in the shower - will you really double up wet towels? If not, then I would go with the single hook style, your third. Your vanity is gorgeous. It's exciting, no? It's good you're not underestimating the importance of coordinating the little details. YOu're in great company here on GW!

We have hooks and heavy 33x66 bath sheets and have not had any problems with them drying - I have found that they don't dry as well on bars because the towels have to be doubled over to fit on the bars if you don't have room for 36" bars. Double bars were even worse IME because there ended up being eight layers of thick fabric in a small area. Two towels on one double hook (Delta Victorian, not one I'd recommend) dry just fine. I live in coastal New Hampshire where it is downright malarial in the warm months and arid in the cold; towels are laundered once a week and we have no problems with funkiness. We do also have the issue of towels not being hung neatly on bars, and I think decorative towels are silly (I am pretty much a failure as a girly-girl!). :-) Here's a picture: One way to evaluate whether towels dry sufficiently on hooks where you live would be to get some of the cheap over-the-door hooks from somewhere like Walmart and give it a shot before installing anything permanent.

Is there any reason not to use robe hooks instead? Many of them look better to me, but they also need to hang onto the towels. The white rubber tip is ingenious, but I'm thinking about how they look when empty (these would be for guests, they could also use them to hang up their clothes when showering.) I have also thought of sewing the loops on the towels, but it seems like that would make them hang even more compressed, and less likely to dry. But in our climate, if you stay so long your towel smells moldy, it is probably time to go home! (But I have lived places where that seems to happen almost immediately, so your mileage may vary) Are some shapes better than others for keeping the towels on? At my in-laws, they fall off before you even turn around, so it's something I'm sensitive to.

Beautiful room!! I put the large size brushed nickel (fake, they are really plastic) Command hooks on the end of the wall like the one between your shower and tub. They hang nicely and could be reached from either shower or tub. I would hesitate to do a train rack at the end of the tub where you will be standing up. Potential head banger. The Command hooks don't leave marks on the wall, so you can try it out. I put heavy damp towels back on mine and they've never failed to hold. If you like the placement, you can get fancier ones if you want to screw them into the wall.

Seems to me that if you live anyplace with humid summers or damp winters, you'd never even consider towel hooks unless you have some affinity for mildew or moldy smelling towels. Either that -- or a religious commitment to laundering towels, every single day.

I tend to agree with wa8b. Bars do better than hooks in drying out towels. Also, I think it might be a bit of a challenge to keep towels on the pictured hooks. I can see them falling on the floor more frequently than I'd like.

Yes, I can see *you* doing fine with those hooks, but if your screen name means there are still kids at home, you'll spend a lot of time picking towels up off the floor with those hooks.

Looking for a good way to hang the max no. of towels in a bathroom to be used by many guests - and yup, in a damp climate. Does anyone know of a good towel stand? What do you think of IKEA's four-rod wall-mounted rack (rods arranged kind of like spokes of a wheel)?

We're in central Texas and as I stated since we've got big robe hooks and place / lay the towel on the hook it dry as quickly as placing on a rod. Now, if we'd wad the towel up and shoot it to the hook - well, I doubt it would dry! Its just what works for us.

By chance, I started hanging towels on the 2 robe hooks on the back of the bathroom door. To my surprise, they dried significantly faster than the towel that was draped over the towel bar. Perhaps because one side of the towel over the bar is against the wall and covered, I don't know. I am re-doing a guest bathroom, and seriously considering towel hooks instead of bars for two reasons: (a) the guest bathroom is small, and the towel hooks don't take up much real estate, and (b) don't want to make guests feel they have to fold towels or wonder where to put them after use; they can just hang them on the hooks.

Now, if anyone has suggestions about a source for good towel hooks, please chime in! I figure some aren't so good cause the towels won't stay put. The ones that are on the back of my bathroom door work well, but aren't very nice-looking.
