Do you use towel hooks or bars? This is the big decision:)
Comments (10)This is just great feedback from all of you. I just now went online and found a gazillion robe hooks but was able to eliminate most based on the advice given from your experience....looking for that deep hook that will hold the towel and keep it away from the wall for faster drying. I'm definately going with the hooks in the shower...and probably a bar in the tub area. Love the train rack idea with hooks but the budget won't let me do that one. Folkman, I'm impressed that you are a bar man and appreciate the look of a nicely displayed towel...I'm married to "drop man", but he has a lot of other fine qualities:) Thanks everyone!...See MoreTowel hooks instead of a bar?
Comments (10)Generally speaking, I don't think hardware should be a resale issue unless it's a whole house full of something extremely dated, worn out, or highly stylized or personal. Even then, any buyer who can pick up a screw driver should know that most hardware is easily replaced with their own choice and one of the easiest and fastest ways to make a place their own. I wouldn't worry about it at all unless this is being fixed up specifically for sale. In that case, less might be more (the train rack gives you a towel bar and leave it at that). People can always add hardware of their chosing. Stay with a basic style they can add to (train racks generally are). Would the hooks, if you use them, be in a regular wall? If so, they are easy to replace, especially if you keep a small container of touch-up paint marked for the room it goes with. If you are drilling holes in tile or something, then replacement is more of an issue, but as long as towels can be hung and have enough room that they dry properly, I don't see an issue for most folks. If this is for space considerations only, make sure that hooks large enough to hold and dry towels well don't stick out more than a towel bar. And if they are for your use, get what you want....See MoreBest places to buy towel bars and hooks?
Comments (13)Ebay! I got all of my towel bars, rings, tp holders etc. from there. I got oil rubbed bronze for my master bath and chrome for the guest bath all made by Price Pfister a couple of years back. It was about half the price maybe less then it was in one of the big stores (maybe Lowes?) If you want to see it in person you can order one to be sure you like it before getting the whole set. I also got my cabinet knobs on Ebay for the last two houses I had and will again for the new house. The same exact knobs and pulls that cost $8 to $12 in stores cost $1 to $4 on Ebay. I always purchase just one to be sure I like the style and color before I order all of them. BTW I'm originally from LI too. That's too bad Fortunoff closed. I have a leather sofa and chair set I got from them that's going on seven years old that will probably last another ten years! It gets heavily used and abused by kids and dogs plus slept on by my 250 lb husband!...See MoreTowel bar or hooks?
Comments (41)We have both hooks and a towel bar in our bathroom. I use the towel bar and my husband uses the hooks. My towel always dries much faster on the bar than my husband's does on a hook, unless he hangs his towel across all three hooks. Even though it's not as cute as hooks, I do think you'll be happier with a bar. "I can't believe that so many people hang up wet towels. 10 minutes or so in a dryer after everyone has showered, and the towels are fresh and dried, and the bathmat isn't a soaked mess." Sounds nice, but in our case, it would be more work and I'm trying to reduce unnecessary resource consumption in our household. Our bathroom is two floors up from the dryer and I don't have that kind of time in the morning, to run towels down, remember to pick them up when they're done and run them back upstairs. We simply hang our towels, and they're dry by the time we get home from work. We don't need them done any faster than that, and I don't have 2 minutes to spare on running towels around when I'm trying to get out of the house by 6:30am. I'd rather sleep the two extra minutes. ;)...See MoreRelated Professionals
