What a great tip I got from reading Jane's laptop virus problem, going to Landzdown for a clean up. I've been there for about the last 4 days trying to get my old IBM Netvista cleaned up from my 2 trojans. The machine is getting better, learned a lot there. I have a question for you guys....how do I get rid of some of my tool bars. I have been careful not to include new ones with recent downloads, but I've still ended up with 6 lines! WOT had it's own line for awhile and now it has been joined with "file, edit, view, favorites, tools and help"!

Try right clicking on an empty space on a toolbar. should bring up a list of toolbars so you can remove the check mark from the ones you don't want to show.

Or on your Internet Explorer page, click on "View, Click on "Toolbars" and a list should appear. Uncheck the ones you dont want to show

My eldest son went out with a girl for two years and everyone really like her. When they broke up his cousins asked him if they could keep her and get rid of him. :) Back to topic- When above son was in high school he was part of a group of kids who were/are good kids - smart, responsible nice kids. They weren't the in-kids or the jocks but they were the kids who accepted the nerds and the new kids - the social group where parents wanted their own kids to be a part of in school. They weren't perfect but the silly things they did never overshadowed their reputation. In first year college he met a new male friend and started hanging out with him. I think there was some thrill to hanging out with this kid.This kid didn't have a good reputation (drugs were the issue) and that's how I approached the problem. Instead of forbidding him from seeing this new "friend" I talked to him about reputations and labels. My son (and his friends) had a good label and this boy did not. I explained how easy it is to go from a "good" label to a "bad" label or reputation and how so very difficult it is to get back that reputation. I explained that even though he may not do anything wrong the bad label is easily transferred. People like to talk about the bad kids but seldom about the good kids because that isn't tantalizing or scintillating gossip. I explained about the purpose of gossip and how stories can get exaggerated and with the advent of texting and tweeting how quickly things can spread. So I asked him what kind of a label did he want for himself and what kind of a reputation did he and his friends want for themselves - for now and for the future. My son chose to get rid of this kid but I think it was hard for him but he had goals and figured out that being involved with this kid could hamper those goals. Selfishly, I also told him that I didn't want this kid and his reputation to hamper my reputation. As my son's mother I could get dragged into the gossip as well. ( what was she thinking allowing DS1 to hang out with that kid, etc) I just explained that he would eventually be moving out of the neighbourhood and I wouldn't be.

Correct, the HEPA filter you have in your regular vacuum doesn't make it a HEPA vacuum. The vacuum is also airtight. If you use your regular vac, you'll be spewing dust particles all over the house. Kudzu is right, you should weigh the risks very carefully. Warning: Personal Philosophy Statement Ahead As a culture we revel in taking great risks (extreme sports, are a good example, there are others) because in our everyday lives we are overly risk averse. That is not to say that DIY asbestos removal is not risky, but that given the right amount of education and caution, there is no reason why you couldn't do this work, imo. How many of us are much more capable of doing more than we do because we've been lead to believe that we're NOT capable? PullmanHolt makes a small HEPA vac that's about $450 or so. It's what our housing rehab program recommends for lead and should work for asbestos as well (double check this, though). If you do a search for asbestos respirator, you'll come up w/ a ton of links. Count me in as TKO as well! I have been planning for over a year now, ever since we had our offer accepted on this house. I found this site soon after and it has been so wonderful and informative--my plans have changed a zillion times with every new or interesting k;tchen I see. Besides GW, I also run through the cable guide on my tv for two weeks at a time and DVR all the HGTV shows that have to do with k;tchens--Bang for Your Buck (the great room eps too, as those often include k;tchens); Dear Genevieve; Holmes on Homes; Divine Design; Color Splash; Spice up my K;tchen---you get the picture. Don't always love or even like what I see, but I most always learn something. I also subscribe to 24 design blogs--half deal specifically with k;tchens and the rest post about them at least some of the time. My cabinet maker said I'm the most prepared client he thinks he's ever had (and that it was a good thing, not annoying--but who knows? ;->). My remod@l doesn't even start until late August, and now that I have picked everything, I'm kind of twiddling my thumbs---but I still love reading about k;tchens!

Casi you did a great job yourself in staying patient and working step by step to clean your computer so I have to say congrats and good work! LzD is an excellent forum and please visit us and play some games in the lounge too in addition to coming by when you need help.

most toolbars will have a listing in your add remove programs in control panel, if you go there and look through the list if you find them there just select them then select to remove them.
If you prefer you can ask Corrine to help you remove them also since she has been helping you.

when you do the uncheck on the toolbars list that does not remove them that just hides them.

a good place to check out what you might be getting with things you download so you know ahead of time to watch out for the "unwanted stuff" is the Hall of Shame list.

Thanks...I'd been playing around with those buttons, etc., but I was afraid to do anything...didn't want to lose the ones that I wanted. The only problem I have left with that is the WOT is on a line all by itself now, wish I could make it join another line. I want to be able to see it.
Raven....thanks so much....what a small world...didn't know you would "know" Corrine. (you know what I mean). BTW, I was looking in this forum history today trying to find exactly how I came about adding RAM to this first machine and I saw your scolding for me because the way I addressed Zep. I felt so bad about the way it came across. I was new and I had butted in on another's posting and he had told me to address the issue to him, so I did. I think I explained that in another posting, but I am sooooo sorry. I couldn't get along without this forum! Thanks. You guys are the BEST!

No problem Casi, totally understand.

Yes I know Corrine, she is a great lady, her skills are very impressive, she donates a lot of her time on the numerous forums providing help. The entire team on LzD is quite impressive actually. I have been there a few years now and really like it. Many of us are on other forums together too.

You can move WOT to a different line, I use firefox so will give the directions on how to do it there. Go to the top bar and in a clear spot right click and select customize, or View>toolbars>customize that will unlock the bars, then use your cursor and grab the WOT icon and drag it to which ever bar you want and at what ever location you want it. Once you are done go to the customize box that opened and click on done.

For IE you would need to tell us which IE you are using, this link may give you some help. I no longer use IE, but I am sure someone can jump in and help with it.
