Refrigerator storage container suggestions, please

I'm looking for the perfect way to store left overs, cut up fruit, bits of stuff, washed lettuce, etc. etc. In the past, I've tried the Rubbermaid refrigerator containers (they stain), Lock & Lock (They seem to take up lots of room), glass (I clumsily broke some) and wondered what you use to keep things in your refrigerator.

I'd love something to use that would stack nicely and that you could see through and that comes in lots of sizes. Is there such a thing????

Does anyone have any good ideas for me to try?

Happygram, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. My favorite containers are the glass Pyrex, but I find the plastic/rubber lids break. I have a nice selection of Lock N Lock that I really like, but many of my storage containers are either glass quart canning jars with lids or the disposable Gladware things because people take leftovers home but never return the containers. I stopped giving them the good containers, now they all get Gladware.

If you have a Dollar Store or Family Dollar near you, you can find cheap clear plastic containers in a variety of sizes and shapes (I prefer square or rectangle because they fit my refrigerator shelves better and use less space than round ones). I keep four or five separate for storing tomato-based concoctions like marinara sauce. When they get stained, that's okay. I know they are clean, they just look a little pinkish!
And as Annie said, when you send something home with someone, you don't have to worry about getting an expensive container back.

I cleaned my file up a while back, but here is my short list of links from my search for a knife solution. I can't personally advocate for any of these products or vendors; however, I did grow up with a wooden slotted rack on the counter (knives drop vertically between the rails); and it was very handy. Not child-safe. My in-laws had the magnetic knife strip, on a cabinet to the side of their sink. That system worked well for them. Again, however, children could climb up there and cause mischief. We're going to lay our knives flat in the thin drawer under the cooktop, with a lock on the drawer. We're still waiting to get the drawer back from the carpenter. I expect the whole arrangement to be very annoying, but I know my kids won't be able to get in there for a long time. I got rid of anything without a mate. (in a couple cases I found the lid later, but no regrets!) Recycle bin. Anything that got discolored over the years (which was most of my old Tupperware). Anything that got remotely "sticky". I didn't bother donating any of this stuff. If I don't think it's safe, I don't think I should pass it on to others. I am glad to see there is now BPA-free plastics, but there's still some question on safety, especially if heated or used to store acidic foods. Anything I plan to use to re-heat in - glass. My supermarket carries Pyrex for cheap. These were great for taking stuff to work in, for nuking - yes, the glass gets hot, but I always kept the tray nearby for unloading the MW. Lids could fit tighter, however - not good for soups! Glasslock is good, too. I think mine are at least MW safe -- they're packed for moving so I can't go check. I never had the urge to put them in the oven. They are better for soups. For pantry storage of rice and such, I've been getting the Oxo things, as their lids are reasonably air tight. And they're pretty stackable. Discovered that they cost a LOT less at Home Goods than at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

This is what I use for my bread. I like it so much, that when I broke my first one, I hunted up one just like it. I ended up buying a 2004 mobile home 1993' sq/ft on 15 acres for $165,000. I had enough of living in the RV and houses started selling quick. I did buy a 40' HC connex that was sand blasted and painted for around $3500 back in Nov 2020. I called him Dec 2022 and now the same connex is around $5500. Everything is to expensive now versus 2020 when I was pricing everything out. If you do buy a mobile home understand that some are better then others. Mine I found out doesn't have any plywood under the vinyl siding, it just has some kind of foam board, I'm pretty upset. It would have been nice to buy one that has 6" external walls as well. It was harder then I thought to find insurance and a mortgage leander. They would only insure the home for $120,000 so eventually it might not be worth having insurance, maybe? At least I have a nice fiberglass 6 person storm shelter underground. My property has now double in price so I thought about having my mobile home moved to the front 4 acres and selling it off for around $165,000 and then building a small stick home later in 2024 or when prices come down some. I'll have to do all the work since contractors are hard to find in North Florida. I called 3 electrician and had them put me on the schedule over a year ago to set up a generator to my circuit breaker and believe it or not none of the 3 ever came. So they either lie to you or don't come.

Cheap Gladware, Tupperware, plastic ziplocs, Green bags, canning jars, etc. It ain't pretty, but it works.

What Deanna said....The inside of my refrigerator is not a fashion statement!! LOL!
I also give away lots of "stuff" in those cheap Gladware containers....never expecting to get them back.....and then occasionally someone brings me 6 or 7!
I also use the old "keep it on a plate" trick....but in keeping with the new millenium I cover it with saran rather that one of those shower cap things.

Sherry, Thank you but it's just to compensate for lack of other skills.

Now, on the subject of storage containers--I think they are a conspiracy!! Just when you find the perfect containers and buy all matchy matchy, they come up with some other Lock n Lock, stack & stack, Click Clack, Klip It, Fit & Fresh, Snapware, Glass Lock, OXO Pop, Always Fresh, Vac 'n Save, Modular Mates, or the like!

Of late, I have had been using Mason jars and recycled giant pickle jars with my hand held FoodSaver; both for the refrigerator and the pantry.

I'm cracking up here LindaC!!
I have 3 shower caps on top of my fridge for the plastic bowls that don't have lids but are awesome for mixing up salads, etc., but Saran wrap doesn't stick to them very well.
