Sub Zero Pro 48 Refrigerator
Comments (8)I was just at expo today and saw the subzero and the Liebherr 48" fridges. The subzero was almost $13 and the Liebherr was almost $8. i actually prefered the Liebherr over the Sub but mostly for asthetic reasons(and some functional). The sub had space for large items in the freezer while the Liebherr had drawers which would make it hard for me to store my extra turkey at Christmas time. I liked the top of the Liebherr for the beverages on the right side and the way the rest of the fridge storage space was set up. The door hinges are also really nice and the door wasn't as heavy. I liked the freezer better on the sub and the fridge better on the Leib, I guess. Didn't like expo at all. Salesman knew squat....had to go the the computer to answer any ?'s and gave wrong info when he did answer on his own. Go figure?...See MoreSub Zero refrigerator--internal water/ice or on the door?
Comments (7)I researched this to the nth degree and ultimately decided I had to have an ice dispenser and went with a Gaggenau freezer tower with custom panel and ice/water in-door. These are also sold under the Miele and Thermador brand names too. They don't make internal ice dispensers just ice buckets/storage bins. From everything I read the SZ dispenser is very finicky about the water quality/water hardness and water pressure fed to it. Unlike competitors the ice dispenser goes from the freezer to the refrigerator side causing increased failures that can cost several hundred dollars to fix each time. Obviously if you use a lot of ice opening the freezer constantly will increase temperature variability, freezer burn/frost, and energy cost. Opening the refrigerator constantly for cold water will do the same minus freezer burn/frost. BTW The ladies in the Kitchen Forum will tell you that putting an ice dispenser on a wood paneled freezer is like a pimple on the tip of your nose. :) BTW II Sub Zero is made in Wisconsin while Gaggenau/Thermador/Miele is made by Bosch in a Bosch owned factory in Turkey....See MorePerlick vs Sub-zero for undercounter wine storage?
Comments (21)My ca. Apr 2012 Signature units have [door] pins. The doors are paneled and units are integrated. Note that it is important to looks and door opening clearance that the refrigeration units and adjacent cabinets all be installed with their sides accurately perpendicular to their common plane of cabinet frontage [no racking allowed]. This is easier to implement if all alignment is performed before the counter top is installed. Edited 10/24 for a modicum of clarity....See MoreAlternatives to a sub-zero refrigerator
Comments (5)Not for everyone and there is no freezer but the quality is impeccable and it is built with commercial components and since the compressor is remote from the fridge, it runs cooler and the kitchen is absolutely silent. My primary fridge and freezer are Perlick drawers under my island Bluestar 60" rangetop which offers the unrivaled convenience of having of having my most used ingredients where I am using them. The Klondike can hold nine gallons of milk on a single shelf and is used for refrigerating leftovers in pans/dishes etc as well as beverages where you want strength and space. I don't believe plastic shelving belongs in a fridge and this is what initially attracted me to this besides the beautiful woodwork. This unit is the proverbial brick outhouse and I love it. The Klondike and Perlick drawers hybrid solution worked best in my situation. Similarly, I have F&P dishwasher drawers flanking either side of my main sink and a Bosch Integra 800 for party cleanup etc since hybrid solutions offer the flexibility and convenience I need. I grew with the integrated side by side freezer/fridge and while the integrated nature of it was nice, the reliability could have been better and the design suffered from use of plastic in the door which I consider a design flaw. Quite simply, given enough and wear, they break, crack and can't hold the same weight. In addition, having all my refridgerative capacity in one unit was a problem since in my mind once you get beyond a certain size kitchen, the kitchen triangle concept gets long in the tooth and is no longer relevant. Designing kitchens around stations makes more sent to me in all but the most constrained kitchens. This makes the idea of concentrating a function in a monolithic form factor outdated to me. Some food for thought... Here is a link that might be useful: Klondike Fridge...See MoreChris
