I need to update my drivers.Will this Driver Detective do the job?Is it safe?

What drivers need up dated? And why?

I have no sound when I start up and no sound when I close.Sound perfect otherwise.I did a scan with the driver detective and it said I had several drives that needed fixing,

I've only known a handful of 90+ people in my life. Only one of them drove and he was a rolling hazard for years. (Died at 94 from natural causes. I personally forbade anyone in my family to be his passenger -- ever.) Several of them didn't stop driving until something bad happened. I've lived in a retirement community via care-giving for my aged mom for almost twenty years. The number of incidents I've personally witnessed in traffic among this group are astonishing in their frequency. Thankfully, due to the care and caution of others, usually nothing happens. I can tell you, in all seriousness and without exaggeration, if not but for my own care and caution, I'd likely kill or injure at least one a day. I don't know anything about the man you're talking about. Surely everyone's different. Maybe he's fine. However, I agree with your opinion that it would be a little risky. I suspect very likely unreasonably so. Whether or not you're being a "brat" about it, I can't speak to.

Yes, I did try shut down, then powered up again. I usually do that rather than restart. I can't find a model number, but did find a name, it's not listed on wired mouse on HP pages. The device manager lists mouse as usb mouse, unknown, or M$, which is not correct. Right clicking on mouse in Device manager only gives me the M$ info, no info that is specific. Obviously is using M$ driver, which I cannot find a link or drop down to use to install driver. Seems like removing Win10 causes more problems than I had trying to use it. Will continue to investigate HP page for other updates. I have installed a few, just not the mouse one. Elusive little sucker. Thanks for the ideas.

Is this XP, If so use the Sound Trouble shooter provided in the link below,before updating drivers, let us know what problems you may have or anything you do not understand at link...

Driver Detective. To see what it would do, I downloaded and ran it. It scanned and found several of my infrequently used programs that needed updates but before DD would get the updates for me, it asked for me to pay. Perhaps I made some $$$$ selection on the way to that point. I sent DD to the trash bin.

Another thing that needs to be understood with downloading drivers is who provided those drivers? Some sites allow uploads of drivers and you would have no way to be sure it was the actual driver you need.

I like to get updated drivers - only if I REALLY need them - from the supplier of the hardware themselves so I can be sure of the authenticity. Then I save those drivers before updating for future use if I need to wipe my computer.
