Uninstall Driver Manager

I continue to have problems with performance on my W7 upgrade to W10 and would like to try uninstalling Driver Manager (a third party trouble make that somehow got on my computer). Control Panel finds the Program but offers only to "change"... "uninstall" is not offered.

Looking on the web I read even the Driver Manager uninstall I understand was also loaded on my computer is not effective. The web source provided uninstall help from Microsoft, but WHAT??? my OS (W10) isn't supported for this function.

I do not know what Driver Manager is contributing to the W10 performance problems, but I don't use it and want to uninstall it and see what happens.

Try revo uninstaller, --> http://www.revouninstaller.com/start_freeware_download.html

Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free.

* Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.

* From the list of programs double click on The Program to remove

* When prompted if you want to uninstall click <b>Yes.</b>

* Be sure the <b>Moderate</b> option is selected then click <b>Next.</b>

* The program will run, If prompted again click <b>Yes</b>

* when the built-in uninstaller is finished click on <b>Next.</b>

* Once the program has searched for leftovers click <b>Next.</b>

* <b>Check/tick</b> the <b>bolded items</b> only on the list then click <b>Delete</b>

* when prompted click on <b>Yes</b> and then on <b>next.</b>

* put a check on any folders that are found and select <b>delete</b>

* when prompted select <b>yes</b> then on <b>next</b>

* Once done click <b>Finish.</b>

i'll give revo a try... but, after my post I went back to control panel and clicked on "change" this activated the Driver Manager uninstall option, which I took. I have noted better W10 performance and will let this "cook" before trying revo and only if Driver Manager reappears.

Does anyone (Novice level) need to check on driver updates? If yes, Driver Manager may be the way... I have just ignored its detection of "needed" updates.

albert- If your wife used Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, it has removed most, but not all, of McAfee. (If she did something else, like only deleted the shortcut for McAfee, it's still there). You can go to the link posted above for the McAfee Uninstaller, download it, and run it to remove everything. I believe it works even if you have already done a partial removal, but not sure. At any rate it won't screw anything up to try it. Also, I've never seen McAfee automatically bill for a subsciption renewal without your consent. I suspect one of you clicked on a button somewhere - like in an email to you from McAfee, or in an update notice as the program approached the anniversary date - and that you agreed to renew your subscription, and probably had to enter your credit card info for the subscription. Lastly, reassure me that you are running some other kind of antivirus software on your computer.

How do I force W7 to use my selected driver?

Well, this will not resolve for me, so I come back just in case there's a answer - seems the answer is "no" not with W7 64 bit.. maybe the history of new MS OS release is a gradual increase in the number of updated applications/drivers. My circular problem is the IR driver W7 installed on its "own", straight plug and play did work some, at least I was able to load the DT on W7 from my Hand Held. So I figured go back to the IR device mfg and see what they had to offer. After loading that driver I found the IR completely no-op, never made even a connection. So, I uninstalled the mfg driver and went back to have W7 PnP get me back to the sometimes work...but this time I did note the driver identification. Well, PnP loaded the same driver. On the face of it this is good news, PnP was able to fine the mfg's driver. But, as I don't know what was there in the beginning, I assume the earlier/first driver load was not the mfg as the device partially worked. Is it possible that since I downloaded the mfg drive the W7 installer is able to find it on my HDD? I did a W7 Control Pannel uninstall and I checked the file system and found the associated files that I knew of were gone.

Really should use the uninstaller & a reboot before deleting left over files & folders. When you install a program, most will write data to the registry.. the programs configurations. Which might include some items that run at startup. If you leave the registry items by deleting just folders rather than runing its unistaller - which will delete most registry items,, you may or may not discover at start up or at other times, errors when the registry tries to access some file you deleted. And with some programs, it might be a major error.

I always use Windows Device Manager to update driver software. It's free and non-malware.
