My Uncle Has Been Found

Well my uncle was finally found today, after almost a month.

He was found close to home. Apparently, while driving, he missed a turn, drove into a field and hit a tree down an embankment near the river. The airbag was deployed. The river line was checked several times too, on foot and by plane. A farmer found him.

We all knew that he wouldn't be alive. At least now the family can have closure.

Sugar Daddy is the one hosta I turfed soon after buying it. It suffers from drawstring and shows the effects almost immediately after planting. The colours are delicious, but it does make an ugly mess in the garden. Even its breeder, Mark Zilis, says in the Hostepedia that "it makes an unsightly mound appearance." May I suggest you save your money. I do have and love Sharp Dressed Man, though it is a slow grower so far. But I wished I never spent my money or wasted valuable hosta space on Sugar Daddy.

Surferchiky, I agree with ulrike, I think your mixed feelings about the situation are justified. It does sound like your DH did his legal duty if not truly fatherly duty by paying child support for a child he did not know and now is open to starting a relationship with that child. It's pretty harsh judgement to come down on your DH without knowing all of the facts about the estrangement from the mother, their relationship if any and so on. Don't worry too much about any child you have with your DH playing second fiddle to his first daughter. They don't really even have a relationship yet and are strangers to each other. It would be pretty unusual if they quickly developed such a close father/daughter relationship that your child together would be relegated to some lower position in DH's life. That being said, this girl IS his daughter and DID come first. You did know about her years ago and although you may not have expected her to enter DH's life beyond child support she has and both of them have the right to know each other. Relax your anxiety about it, she may like you both and you may like her. A deep relationship between them will take a lot of time, in fact, if you have a child that might facilitate closeness all around. who knows? I applaud your DH for doing the right thing. I can understand the other posters thinking he should have played an active father role all along but once again, we don't have all of the facts and it's pretty common for many women and their families to not even want fathers involved especially if there was not a real relationship in the first place. Easy for me to say but just be fair to the girl, flexible with DH because this must be major for him and be easy with yourself. You don't have to be a mean SM like yours was, be yourself and don't forget how it was for you. there is no suggestion of her living with you is there?

It's a MadMadMadMad world, Mad, at least over here in my housing development. If I would put a cage around something, the co-op manager would come running across the street from his office, his flab swinging back and forth, and scream at me that "the insurance people think that this is pointy and dangerous!" He has declared "pointy and dangerous" the following: the plastic Adirondack garden fencing put around my original garden under the plum tree that died; a wrought iron trellis my clematis was growing on (so I made a really outrageous one of swim noodles and put the clematis on that, until he made noise about that, too); pinwheels stuck into your garden (we had a memo about pinwheels in gardens, but no worries, I hate pinwheels in gardens); and plant pots NOT sunk into the ground (not pointy, but dangerous!). How I have managed to avoid his wrath about the half-dozen large ceramic pots scattered within the confines of my garden, I don't know. They are not sunk into the ground. He must be saving that for a slow day. He also had the "landscape workers" rip out a neighbor's Rose of Sharon without any warning or opportunity to move it, because "it was too close to the building" and had a perfectly beautiful pine tree cut down because---wait for it---it was "too close to the building". The only thing around here that's truly "pointy and dangerous" is this guy's HEAD. Haha, I took some spare bricks and made a 2-brick-high garden border wall at the corner of the extended area. Let the "landscape workers" and maintenance men watch their step. Since the maintenance guys repaired our shaky porch banister by encasing the lower end in a 12" square block of cement on the sidewalk that anyone could easily trip over, I think they have nothing to say about this.

Oh Khandi, how awful. I am so very very sorry for you and your family. I too was losing hope that he might be found alive somewhere, after so much time had gone by.

What a tragedy. My thoughts are with you all. As you say, at least you have an answer.

Oh, no. This is not what I was hoping to hear. Still, now you know what happened and as you say, your family can have closure.

Khandi, I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I'm also glad that you finally have your answer and he's been found. I was afraid of something exactly like this. It's amazing how easy it is for a car to go off a road and no one see it for quite a long time. Rest in Peace Dear Uncle.

Thank you all.

Called my mom this morning to see how she was doing. My dad said that she's relieved it's over.

Yesterday my mom came over to my house to make buttertarts and two of her brothers showed up for a visit. We all talked about what could have happened. They were thinking that he was carjacked and his body dumped somewhere because there was no sign of the car. They are all relieved that there was no foul play involved. They figured he had a heart attack and veered into the field.

My mom said it was the not knowing that was the worse. I feel for those parents who have/had a missing child. It must be the worse feeling in the world. We all knew because of my uncle's age that he wouldn't be alive, but to have a child missing???

Oh Khandi, we were all praying for a different outcome, I am so sorry.

I am sure I would feel the same way as your mom....relieved that you finally have an answer, even tho it is not the one you had hoped for.

Hugs, tears and love going out to you and your family from my end. I had a feeling he would be found close to home. Sometimes these old lions just have to break out on their own at the end. I think that's what he did. I have seen it happen with other people. Doesn't make it any easier. I am so sorry you all have had to go through this!
