What *PROJECTS* have you been involved in this year?
Comments (52)Papou, I am fairly new on this forum, and I remember one of the first things I did was open your website. I was stunned with the amount of beauty and information on it and was actually looking forward to winter when I would have it to study and enjoy during my "down time". As I was calmly reading this thread last night, I was stunned when I got to your announcement. I am devastated with the news of your health. However, I stopped believing diagnosises years ago. I had colon cancer in 1987 and breast cancer in 2000, and I'm still going strong. We have so many meds and procceedures that are continually being updated and improved, and I know your doctor will do the very best for you. In fact my Oncologist told me that they now treat so many cancers as a chronic illness. We are not willing to give up your pictures, information, and enthusiasm as well as the wonderful calm dignity you always project in your posts. I love your new porch addition, and your prize hosta growing along your new steps. Stay busy, stay in touch, and God Bless You. We only have one Papou, and you are our treasure. I hope all our prayers will bring you comfort. Your fellow Hosta lover, Mary....See MorePics of my garden
Comments (58)I am so greatful to you .Miriam, for taking the time to provide the pictures of your outrageously beautiful yard, home and hydrangeas - I have enjoyed them all SO much! Thank you again and again. The only thing that hydrangeas miss is FRAGRANCE. If I were younger, I think I would try very hard to create a fragrant variety. Is there anyone out there in Hydrangea Heaven that has developed the fragrance, and where would a plant of it be found? Again, Thank You, Donna from WA STATE....See MoreMy experience with 34 varieties in the Deep South
Comments (15)Great post. I'm in the NE but surprisingly I see much of the same results that you have. My growing season is a bit longer as I don't have to deal with nearly the heat and humidity that you do although my transplant date is the middle of May. In terms of your questions regarding green cherries, the two that I know of that people give favorable reviews of are: - Green Doctors/Green Doctors Frosted - Green Zebra Cherry Some other prolific cherries you could try is Matt's Wild Cherry and Mountain Magic (F1). I haven't tried Sweet Million, but have tried Sweet 100 Million with good success. Also Dr. Carolyn's is very prolific and robust. It's a little later to develop than your typical cherry so it would be interesting to see if it does well in your climate. In terms of blacks, try Indian Stripe. It supposedly has a very similar tast to CP, but is more prolific and provides fruits earlier than CP. In terms of yellows try Hugh's. In terms of reds, I've heard good things about Ramapo (F1). You could also try your hand in grafting your tomatoes to rootstock to improve soil pest resistance and possible introduce more vigor to your tomato plants. There are various opinions on GW about the validity of grafting, but I think in your environment it would be a good thing to try (if nothing else at least you could buy the "Grafting - Been there, done that." There are expensive rootstock seeds you could purchase like Beaufort, or you can purchase cheaper hybrid seeds that already have soil pest resistance genes in them like Celebrity. You could even try your hand hand at making a 'Frankensteinian" tomato-eggplant mix using the eggplant rootstock "Black Beauty" which some people swear by. If you want to learn more about grafting type in "Cary Rivard" in Youtube. Dr. Rivard has a bunch of conference seminars that were video tapped and are now on Youtube. smithmal...See MoreIt's been so slowww...
Comments (24)Durango, so sorry for your loss. I hope quilting can help you channel your emotions. I agree the flow is slow here, but life does happen. My focus has been on trip planning. We are headed to London and Paris for 14 days with our dear friends. I did not want to plan all of it myself, but between me and my dear friend, K8 ( some of you may know her from this forum) we managed flights, trains, hotels, apartments, tours and transportation...off we go. We do plan a stop at Liberty of London for fabric as well as the fabric market in Paris...can't wait. if I find some good fabric stuff in Paris...ill be sure to post pics on my return. i did manage to finish this little baby quilt. I gave it to the Mom yesterday. She's a mom, business owner and a derby car driver for fun...what a combo...but she loves her truck, hence the pink and blue trucks backing fabric just for her.
