I'm back with a DM update

I just got home this evening. It's been a hard 16 days. I got down to Mom's and took over for my DSIL. After 4 days I could see Mom was going downhill fast. SIL and I decided it was time to call and ambulance to take DM to the hospital (her shoulder hurt too much and she was too weak for us to transport her). She had pneumonia, staph and her electrolytes were off. I've been at the hospital morning to night. She was discharged on Thursday and had to go to a nursing home. There really wasn't any choice as she needs to get stronger before she could come here or go to her own home. She really wants to be able to live independently and I think being in the nursing home is giving her the incentive she needs, to do what she knows, she needs to do...walk more, eat better and learn to breathe better. The pneumonia is much better, her shoulder is healing and she is able to walk with a cane. She has accepted that she may have some limitations, probably no more driving.

My SIL lives just a short distance from the nursing home and her and my DM wanted me to come home. I'm pretty worn out and I caught some type of virus myself. I already feel better, just being home! I'll be keeping a close check on things, if DM continues to improve on the steady pace that she has already, she may not have to be there long, my guess is 2-3 weeks.

Thanks so much for all the words of encouragement on the other thread. The only way I could have gotten online would have been to go to the library and I just couldn't fit that into my schedule.

Back to better eating and cooking!

Nancy
