A beautiful wedding....

We are home from our whirlwind weekend in Chicago. Erin and Nasri's wedding was picture perfect and everyone had a great time. I had planned on trying to hook up with Peppi on Sunday, but we were all tired and chose to just "veg" all day. (Sorry Peppi!)

My son Nathan and his daughter, (my precious grand-baby) Zoe...as you can see, she was enjoying the wedding immensely! LOL

We got home last night, the pups were so happy to see us! Mojo has improved, but is still pretty "stumbly". I got him to eat a full bowl of food last night, one handful at a time.

Gotta run...lots of unpacking to do!

congratulations, Linda, and all good wishes for the newlyweds!

I'm so glad Mojo is a bit better, I'm hoping for a quick recovery now. Zoe nearly stole the show from the bride, she's just beautiful. Nearly. I love Erin's dress, it suits her. I can't even picture her in something frothy and fluffy, and that dress is so elegant.

Erin looks beautiful and happy and perfect. Nasri is a lucky guy, even if the Forum DOES approve of him. (grin)

Congratulations to all of you!

What a beautiful bride and a very handsome groom. I am sorry we missed out on crashing or meeting up on Sunday, but I understand. Next time for sure.

Congratulations, if that's the word. Unfortunate you had refunded the money but that's a tough one in the circumstances. I am very glad the judge saw how things were - considering the annulment, what was mob hoping to gain? What's the point of wedding pictures? I do think you need to exercise caution in similar situations so you are not admitting liability which could have nailed you in different circumstances. Not that I wouldn't be sympathetic and wanting to make right something that hadn't turned out right, but you want that to be on your terms if you choose to do so. You do need a contract but along the lines of how I suggested earlier, imho. I think offering a retake of the formal pictures with a diplomatic explanation of what you thought the cause was (makeup) rather than saying makeup artist was incompetent, say the makeup doesn't appear to have reacted well to flash photography etc. That retake would be at your expense, getting parties together, travel etc at their expense. Ultimately your disclaimer should be like the Kodak one, all care no responsibility, liability limited to equivalent amount of unexposed film. That is your bottom line, you can always offer a more generous alternative if you choose (if problem was on your end say, of course you'd want to do what you could) and of course make sure any written offers (with the aforementioned caveats) include "without prejudice" provided that term is legal where you are. I can see how your feelings were hurt. I would feel very insulted if I were you. You have a right to those feelings. But I think you said it best yourself: "we didn't want any bumps in the road." It sounds like you have managed that very well so far. I think that, if you can manage it (I know it's hard), you would be wise to keep employing those skills now and try not to respond to this. Perhaps it really is true that they -- mistakenly -- thought that this was the more sensitive way to handle the situation. Maybe they had once been, or had heard of others being in, a situation where a family with friends and relations of lesser means felt humiliated when the much more lavish gifts of the other side's guests were opened, and were trying to spare your feelings. They ended up doing exactly the opposite, didn't they? But based upon what your son said, that was evidently their intention. Maybe sometime when an opportunity arises naturally to discuss this with your son and his wife, you can let them know that you aren't so sensitive about such things, and that you would feel more comfortable not to be "handled" even with the best of intentions. You actually said that it was your son, not his bride or her family, that you are disappointed in. I get that, too. As another recent (last month) mother of the groom, I can relate! I can only tell you that I noticed my own son bending over backward to try to understand his bride's family, their special sensitivities, and and their preferences. There were moments when we thought he was really kind of overdoing it -- but I am glad we didn't say anything. It was important for him not to be appearing to take sides, or something like that (I'm making it sound like there were conflicts -- there really weren't, it was more like he was afraid for no reason that there might be, or that they would be super-sensitive. In truth, they're not, and we all get along great.) If he doesn't calm down a bit about it, we'll talk, but I bet he will -- and I bet your son will, too. So I end as I began: I can completely understand your disappointment and sense of insult, and you aren't wrong, but I think you will all be happier in the end if you can let this go. Having a great relationship with the machetunim is worth a lot, and it's a wonderful gift to give your son.

Decades ago, I attended the wedding of my sorority sister in Texas. In New York, where I am from, cash gifts are typical, and there is a decorated box or something on the gift table to receive (and secure) these cards. They didn't have one, and, naively perhaps, I just put my card on the gift table. She did send me a thank you for coming down for the wedding, but no mention of the gift. Since one of our sorority values is "gracious living," I knew that she knew proper etiquette. In a conversation months later, it came out that she never received my gift. We were both relieved to discover the truth, actually. So I think if a usually polite person doesn't send a thank you note, it is worth it to question whether the gift was received. (And if there is no card box on the table, hold on to your cash gift and send it later.) And graywings123 is correct: one year to send the gift, but thank you notes as soon as reasonably possible, per Miss Manners.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Your daughter is just lovely, and so is her dress. The grandkids and grand nieces are so cute! I'm so happy things went well. I'm glad Mojo's getting better, too. Maybe now that you're more relaxed, she'll respond in kind.

These are pictures that I took, that is why I am not in any of them.

When I get some of the pix the others took I can try to share one or two of me and Tim. I am SO not photogenic, tho! Good thing my kid doesn't take after me in that respect! LOL

Oh wow! Just look at what we missed. I'm so sorry that we didn't crash the wedding while we were in Chicago but being tired overcame us. We would not have been a parting couple :-)

Erin makes a beautiful bride and her husband is dashingly handsome. Just perfect!

My best wishes for them and for a long happy marriage.
