Heading off tomorrow for the wedding weekend

We will be flying to San Jose tomorrow and then driving to Big Sur for our older son's wedding on Saturday. I cannot believe it is finally here; they have been engaged over a year. Our younger son, his best man, flew in yesterday from NYC and will head north with us.

Today the Bride and Groom leave for Big Sur to camp out a night together before all the whoop-de-do starts. My sister and her spouse are off on a leisurely car trip there, and DD and her family are juggling to get the terrible-twos son and his older brother happy and organized for the trip on Friday too.

This should be a beautiful wedding among the redwoods. We will have the rehearsal dinner BBQ also at another redwoods campsite where 5 sites have been reserved for the occasion. The wedding will be high on a bluff where we can see the rivers and ocean in the distance, and then the reception will be at their favorite little restaurant there which we will take over completely.

This young bride is perfect for our son, and they do make a happy, loving couple. They are both in their 30s, and have dated now for 6 years. They will take a short trip to Napa and then next summer plan a real honeymoon to Italy and Paris.

Congratulations to your son and his fiance! Big Sur is gorgeous and the weather should be phenomenal. Hopefully you won't get stuck in any highway 1 weekend traffic. Have a safe trip!

My Wal Mart wasn't having a 50% off sale and I didn't buy the eleven dollar Sanbokan lemon since I have a truck load of plants waiting to be dealt with. My wife who is supposed to help me exercise restraint said "why didn't you get it?" when she came home! Well, if it's still there this weekend I'll bring it home. But what I did luck into was their Christmas closeout rack. I've been kicking myself for not buying the strings of little twinkly lights to wrap my citrus trees next year with when they were in the stores as I figured they'd be cleared out by now. Nope, they still had a whole shelf full of the 100ct little LED light strings for 30 cents a box! So I bought twenty boxes. Would have bought more but didn't want to be too greedy. If any of them are still there when I go to look for that Sanbokan I'll get some more. ......Alan.

Hey gang! Yeah, it was pretty fun! The morning session was more of a walk-through for 1 hr. The afternoon session was more the "full-pads" drills/scrimmaging. After the morning practice, the Linebackers were doing autographs, & I got Audie Coles. Between the sessions, had lunch, then walked around MSU. Finally found the Vikes dorms! Wasn't hard to spot, with 6 golf-cars in the front! Plus...the cars in the nearby lot weren't exactly what college kids would be driving! We were 50 feet away from AP for while, but then they moved over to the middle field of THREE side-by-side fields. Much harder to watch then, so we left halfway thru the aft. session. Well, being a SAHW--I really don't get any days off. But DH not only has Friday (today) off, but he got out at noon yesterday (Thurs). As to the money? He gets paid for vacation days, so yes, he'd rather not have to go in, I'm sure. Now, as to me? Yesterday, I was running around getting packed up to come to the country house. Then when we got here, I had to scramble to make dinner out of whatever I could come up with. Today? I've been getting the house and food ready for company, and putting together my wedding present for the reception we're going to tomorrow. And then, there was the fact that DH came here with NO appropriate clothes to wear tomorrow--so had to take care of that little problem..... Yes, I'd love a day off. Maybe one of these years I'll get one. Right!--LOL

If they are bare root, one would assume that the roots are properly wrapped for shipping, but that depends on the quality of the vendor. In which case, you only need to keep the shrubs' roots covered/wrapped and cool. Otherwise you can wrap the roots in wet newspapers, heel into a mulch or compost temporarily or pot up in a container. Just continue to keep the plants cool (but above freezing) as warm temps will encourage them to break dormancy.
