LOL

When I was young and single I LIVED for three day weekends.

Now I'd rather have the money.

I do too. I have every day off. I hope everyone has a great 4th of July.

I'm going to the river/cabin tomorrow, after I take DGS home, until Sunday late afternoon, when I have him again. Mom's getting in some overtime, so I am too. I've been babysitting while mom works 4-12 PM.

BF is coming down and we are going to the big Louisville Flea Market and then out to dinner at Outback, our favorite.

LL - yes, we are having a boy! :) I think you misunderstood the use of Bedroom 2. At first it will be a nursery, and likely stay that way until our second child is ready to move to the other side of the house, during that time one of the bedrooms at the far end of the house will be used by guests. Hopefully by the time our second child is ready to move to his/her permanent room we will have the upstairs finished as the main guest area (there may be a kitchenette up there as well). That said, Bedroom 2 will be a guest room for my MIL who can't climb the stairs, and we will figure out the final use of that room and the arrangement of it when we get to that distant point! :) I'm not at all concerned about the privacy of sharing the wall, as we are much much happier sharing a wall with a seldom used guest room than the great room! :)

Thanks everyone. I've got my spf 100, bottled vitamin water which I'll freeze, a blanket and good walking shoes. I think I'll carry a backpack, although I haven't used one since college. It will be interesting to see if hubs and I are older than the rest of the fest goers, lol. Who cares! The dilemma is going to be how to see all the bands I want to see when they overlap. I know things will prbably run late and I will miss some. But my definite "sees" are Lady G, Arcade fire, rogue wave, cut copy, edward sharpe, temper trap, phoenix, blitzen trapper, and yeasayer. Thank you to my darling children for turning me on to some awesome music. Liz, you sound just like me when I was young and living in the city. Those were the days! I'll report back next week.

Wildchild, let me tell you about these poodles. I have worked with them constantly for the last 6 months. I have gone outside with them each time and have done all you suggested. The only thing it accomplished was that now they don't want to go outside without me and bark at the door immediately to be let in unless I go outside with them. I have tried the commands shhhhhhhhh and quiet. I have tried distracting them. I have tried clicker training. They are not neglected with me, I have tried everything I can think of. I do not let them bark outside for more than a minute, if they don't get quiet, we all have to come back in the house. When we got them, they were 3 years old and had never seen a Vet. I swear they must have been puppy mill dogs from their behaviour. Their first adoptive home did not work out. They found them too difficult to handle. They were not house broken, didn't get along with cats. We were told they were housebroken and got along with cats. They were terrified shivering creatures that looked like no one had even groomed them. They were very underweight. They didn't even know how to play and did not know any commands. All they did was shake and cuddle close to each other. It must have been a split moment of insanity that made me take on these two. The Humane Society surprised us with grooming them for us by a volunteer and started their shots. We took them to the vets and continued with all of their immunizations, did the deworming and fattened them up (too much with all of the clicker training). We did a lot of training with them teaching them the basics, taught them to play with toys, and have tried very hard to get them over being scared and terrified little creatures. Our vet is really pleased as well at the changes in their behaviour and how well they have settled down. They certainly are different dogs now. They love their crates. They have never attempted to chew anything we have not given them. They certainly have come a long way. We all think they were puppy mill rescues. Barking still is an issue. The Bark Off was our last attempt. We trained with our neighbours dogs to try and get them used to each other so that they wouldn't bark. If they all start to bark, our neighbour comes out and we discipline the dogs together at the same time. Neither of us keeps our dogs out for long stretches only because the neighbour behind us gets agitated so quickly and believe me, we are well aware of this as his potty mouth has words I would never use around children. To say he is unreasonable and grouchy would be an understatement. Our other neighbours without dogs are fed up with HIS behaviour and are sympathetic with all we have done to get our pooches to behave. We have worked very hard with their training. They do their sit, down, stay commands really well now. They love playing and their training continues. I have been told that barking is an issue with poodles that may never be stopped completely but I am still working on it. Unfortunately it becomes a game with them....bark...quiet....bark....quiet. Lets see who gets the last word in! I am now trying hand signals.

Yep, I only water "new implants",and last time I was there I did test the soil with my moisture-reader of a couple of them, and the soil still registered as "moist" ,so I haven't yet started watering. In any case, this year there's only 15 new ones,since I could only start gardening after Christmas, due to the hip operation. What's more, I do have quite a lot of water stored up out there; it's just that, as a principle, I like to always replace the water that I use as much as possible. But these past 2 years have been so hard: last summer, since I was doing chemo, I had to break my rule and use water without replacing it,my water-catching rooflet fell down, and un-wisely, I put off filling up one of my 5 big water tanks-I didn't forsee my car having problems. So, things are far from "desperate", lol-it's just frustrating. For at least this up-coming week, I may have to avoid trying to go out there;the forecast is so bad! extreme heat, no favourable wind (for me, favourable is south-west ; makes it bearble temperature-wise and keeps the mosquitos, flies, etc away). Among my future projects is to build myself a sort of gazebo, so I'll have a place to sit in the shade and just look. Also adding trees, though it's tricky. The view is so beautiful, and I don't want to block it too much, but it is towards the south-west . So I am trying to guess spots in which I can put trees that won't block the view completely, yet will provide some protection from the afternoon sun. But I get so little morning sun, and I don't want to block that. I'm also trying to think of ways to shade the roads that I must use to get down to my garden. For the main one I'm going to try to plant tall -growing climbing roses that I can train over rebar bent to form arches, in the hopes to create a sort of rose tunnel. On another path, within the garden,I've decided to not replace the roses that I removed -they were doing so poorly!-and instead put in a redbud or two. I've got 2 wisterias planted that I'm hoping will help shade the entrance gate as well. Gotta build support structures for these things, though...so much to do! but for now it's best that I just sit tight, and try to be patient.

ME!!!!

I LIVE for 3 day weekends! :)

I would take the time over the money any day. I have no plans either, except maybe to go sailing Sunday. I love weekends with no plans.

I do, too!

Like every day ... as I've been retired for 10 years or so and receiving pension for about 13 - 15 years.

However, yesterday was a holiday around here, for working people, as it was our national day. But I drove a friend to a celebration in a city about 100 miles away as he was making balloon toys for kids ... and had a good day doing that.

But I have several items of business to take care of tomorrow, plus some shopping ...

... and some email stuff at the library, as my new computer won't start due to some stuff in it that threatens Windows ... and the email system is blocked on this old one, so I'll need to spend some time dealing with that.

Some shopping, too.

Plus ... I have about half a dozen things to do in the garden, that's over three times as large as last year. That includes pulling weeds ... that are growing fast - like weeds!

Since I am a homemaker, I don't know if we really have any time off. We sort of have maybe a few hours here and there. Tomorrow I will probably be most busy getting things ready for our cook out at Amber and Mike's for the Fourth of July. If I want to watch the fireworks I can walk out into my very front yard and see them in town. I seldom do that as I would be sitting out there by myself in the dark in the woods with the mosquitoes! I have a lot of things to try and get done today for the Fourth and then coming up on Sunday is our monthly church dinner. I will be busy, but it will be fun. Ole Joyful, when you get finished with the weeds in your garden, you can hop down here, I think there might be some mighty ones in my garden you can have ! I hope everyone has a great Fourth of July!

We usually have Adult Children here for the Fourth of July. With the draught no one is doing Fireworks. My Son usually does a fireworks show for the Grands. It tickles me to see them all delight at the sights and sounds.

Most of our Lakes are down in levels also. Makes it kind of hazardous to be out there on the water. Best to stay off the water right now. We loaned our Jet Skis out to a friend who has young children, but they are going out of state.

Up until 2 years ago we would park the RV in the parking lot at the Houston Racetrack for the horse races and fireworks. We quit because folks would use us for the parking lot "potty". LOL! The motorcycle cops would rest in the shade of the motorhome too. LOL!

I have every day off since I am retired. I am surprised so many are off today. The post office is treating today like it is a Saturday, the windows close at noon but mail is delivered all day.

Hubby has 4 days off. I agree with Marilyn Sue...I don't really have any days off just a couple hours. But I will enjoy having my sweetie home with me!
We are going to put the quilt frame he built me together!!! Then, he will help me put the quilt in! Can ya'll tell I am just beyond excited...LOL I told him I wanted to take pictures and then he can help me post them for you all to see the gorgeous quilt frame he made me to finish the quilt tops Mama left me. YEA!!! LOL

I'm off (as usual) and Jammer is off too. I have to go for lab work and then we will go see his brother who is in the hospital. That's all we have planned for Friday.

I'm off every day too since I retired. Of course there is still housework to do and cooking to do and a 13 year old to take care of, but it is such a blessing to not have to go to work then come home and do all of the other stuff.

The 4th is my mother's birthday so we will be going over there. I'm buying some Corky's barbecue to take along with some watermelon, cake and ice cream.

Nope, tomorrow (4th) is DH's & My 39th anniversary, he's working, the kiddos want to come up and blow things up, I'll have to feed them something so that means I have to stand in the kitchen when I'd rather go swimming ;o)

So the answer is..............I am working hehehe.

My son and son-in-law both technically have the day off, but nevertheless, they will put in a full day of work anyhow. Hopefully it will only be an 8 or 10 hour day since it is supposedly a day off.

Both Dean and I are off today. Dean and Caryn (she's off today too!) are going out and finding something interesting....myself, I will stay at home and work on the Kalie's wedding dress and wedding things. =) They have things they think are fun...I have mine!!! (I am beginning to be such a homebody!!!)

I do but then I have every day off....Ah, retirement! If the weather clears up, DD and grands and I are going to a local Arts and Crafts Festival...We go to look but mostly to eat....If not today, maybe tomorrow....

Well, being a SAHW--I really don't get any days off.

But DH not only has Friday (today) off, but he got out at noon yesterday (Thurs). As to the money? He gets paid for vacation days, so yes, he'd rather not have to go in, I'm sure.

Now, as to me? Yesterday, I was running around getting packed up to come to the country house. Then when we got here, I had to scramble to make dinner out of whatever I could come up with. Today? I've been getting the house and food ready for company, and putting together my wedding present for the reception we're going to tomorrow. And then, there was the fact that DH came here with NO appropriate clothes to wear tomorrow--so had to take care of that little problem..... Yes, I'd love a day off. Maybe one of these years I'll get one. Right!--LOL

I am off for the 4th. I work Tuesday thru Saturday everyweek so this will be an actual 3 day weekend for me. Since most holidays fall on Monday I never get those! I am looking forward to it and it won't make a difference to my pay as I am salary anyway.

i was off (dh is always off he's a college student lol), we went to seaworld. we had planned to stay for fireworks but after 6 hrs walking in the heat & humidity we were tired :-/ tomorrow we're supposed to go to Bok Tower, a botanical garden just south of orlando, we'll see lol feet and legs are tired lol ~ liz

i wish i wasnt off all day, as i havent worked all week, and it looks like no work next week either..jeeze oh what can you do. we used to have great big family/friends clambakes on the 4th, but with the prices and all the work, me and my mom and dad just couldnt do it anymore. ah the good old days they were lol
