Enjoy your layoff Bunny! Remember it wouldn't be so sweet if you hadn't been worked to death the weeks and months before.
As for the blue cheese sauce, sautee some mushrooms onions and garlic in a bit of butter, add some crumbles of blue cheesestir and when it's melted, add a good glub of brandy, flame and pour over your meat.

Uh oh -- too bad I guess. I wouldn't mind being unemployed but I would miss the salary and benefits a whole lot. As my friend said, the hours are great but the pay is lousy.

Kind of nice to have some time off knowing they will call you back. Can you collect unemployment for the time you are not working? It isn't much but it's something.

In the meantime, enjoy and don't drink too many beers.

Nice that the former GF is around. When you said "we slipped away" -- I envisioned something besides shopping, especially considering the title of your post!

Yes Cathy... your e-mail prompted me to post a report on my whereabouts.

Linda I was off cooking by the time you posted but I'm tucking that away for another day.. or maybe later tonight for a midnight snack. It turned out just how I craved. I cut the blue cheese in half with cream cheese and mixed in a ton of rosemary. Almost didn't do the rosemary but I looked at my rosemary plant growing more then I'll ever use. It was pretty stiff but it stuck to the venison and I was happy. While the fryer was hot I stuffed some biscuit dough with spinach and the cheese mixture for cheese filled dough balls. Other dough balls I left plain but buttered with strong cinnomon. The blue cheese/cinnomon flavor combo was a meal maker! Dolly had one chunk of venison before the salt and pepper hit it.

I'm COOKING GIRLS! Juuuussstt coooooking! FOOD! Cooking food! Oh dear... when Jessy sees this I'm so dead.

Okay Lori... just twist my arm for info... : ) I had a friendship with my ex-gf before we took up living together. It seemed only reasonable that we remain friends. She left me and got married and had another child... she had two boys before we took up together. Not impossible for us to get back together but not probable. She lives in another State and I only see her when she brings the boys around to visit my parents and their grandmother.

Well a pretty good electrical storm going on so I'm going to check out before I lose my connection to the satellite.

Hi from MI Michael!
I was so worried when I first saw the title of your post. (I didn't make the GF connection, lol!) Guess that reflects my MI sensibilities. All I could think of is that your plant closed down! So glad to hear that's not the case and you're taking some r&r. I get one weekend at the beach, if I can squeeze that in between all the traveling it took to get here.

I recall the last time you got together with the XGF and her kids. I think it is wonderful that you can keep such a nice relationship, doesn't always work that way.

You have had such a heck of a time this year I'm thinking a bit of compulsory down time is a good thing.

Enjoy yourself and the summer. Work will be raising its ugly head soon enough.

Another week! I'm so loving it!

Work called and gave me next week off... surprize surprize surprize. I'm also expecting the following week but we will see. Last year I had two weeks off in July with a week of work between. Hoping for a solid three weeks. There is a normal retooling lay-off most every July in the auto industry. I've worked a few weekends this year and I'm really soaking in the rest and relaxation. Budget wise I'm in good enough shape to play a little... even made an extra house payment so I don't get stupid and party it away.

Lots of work to do next week. My truck is ready for an oil change and a wax job. I hope to get at least three more years out of it so service work is time well spent. Dolly is ready for an electric dog fence. That will give her more room to run. I have to keep her tied up when outside because she loves to take off.

Friends from the city coming up this weekend so I'll be grilling something. After being so sick the last couple years it finally feels like I've beaten whatever it was. My energy has returned allowing me to do chores and drink some beer. There was some time there I thought I might die.

Moving forward with starting a small business. So many friends need work and I'm fairly certain I can get a couple government contracts. A bit lean on cash but I think I have enough to launch. With the recent inflation I'm concerned about having enough money a couple years down the road. If it keeps up I'll be burning christmas trees for heat!

No hard times from me, L. I've been holding my breath while checking back here to see how you've been doing. I worry about my CFers in Michigan what with the car economy going the way it is, and I won't crack jokes during the gravity of the situation. Glad you told me layoffs are not unexpected in July, that you are feeling better, and have a new project on the horizon!

Yeah yeah YEAH! Another week in heaven! Grillin' stuffs, sitting on my duff, drinking a couple sips, scratching dog ears, and petting cats. I expected this week off but it was not offical until a few minutes ago.

So far it is mostly good. Not doing so good on my chores... the truck is still dirty. Down to my last two gallons of apple/blueberry wine. Homemade with no sulfides so it is drinking down fine without the pickled tummy feeling. A trip to the city to visit a friend that was struck blind this year. So glad I had time to go visit.

A bit frightening to see FoMoCo report such devestating losses. Part of me wants to laugh because the auto industry worships incompetence and part of me is worried about the loss of such a large customer. I made a couple extra years of wages working overtime building Ford parts so it would be sad if they failed. Just turned down a day shift job leading a new Ford truck product line. It should have been a prize line but current economic conditions just don't look good for it.

My garden is not doing so well. Deer raided most of the veggies. A young doe with three fawns hanging out in the front yard. Don't know if she adopted some or actually had triplets... twins are common. Cross your fingers Jessy and we might have some tenderloin for you this year. It was so dry last month. I watered but it is not the same as a good rain storm like we had this last week. What is left is growing strong... lots of cayenne, habenera, and serreno peppers. Some yellow tomatoes and the Romas are growing strong. Biggest plant and most interesting is a volunteer squash plant. Looks like acorn squash but I'm not certain yet. It seems to have sprouted on its own but may be a prank from the teenage girls next door. Last year they went around my fields planting sunflowers... their mom narked them out. Real joke is I'd probably pay them to go out and plant birdfood. I don't get the humor but I'm very pleased anyway.

Off to make some kombucha tea. Never tried it before so it will be a new toy.
