WOW Good for her! She's several years too old, but maybe she could wait for my DS?! :) What character she is showing during what is usually such a difficult age. I would be very proud of her too!

DD is turning into a really lovely adult. She's 23 now. I'm also proud of the fact that she has been a guiding force in keeping her friends from drink driving, something which too many other teenagers do too casually, often with tragic results. Perhaps because she heard too many horror stories as a child (DH is a traffic cop) she has always been most insistent that whenever they go out they have a non-drinker who does the driving (what we call a "skipper"), or plan to leave cars at home and use taxis or parents. On the odd occasion their skipper has succumbed to temptation and had alcohol, DD has declared the car stays there, they take a taxi home and go back the next day when they're sober to collect the car, even if it's across town.
She's very responsible.

Colleen, good for your daughter. Somehow, though, I'm not surprised, you've taught her well.

Here we have "designated drivers" too, or we're supposed to. Ashley is not old enough to drink, the legal age is 21, and Amanda can't drink because of her seizure meds. Somehow my girls nearly always end up being the designated driver.

I have to admit, though, that Ashley is a lot "wilder" than Amanda ever was. Amanda probably wouldn't be in a club and in a position to intervene because she's never been that outgoing and social. Like me, she dislikes crowds of people and never enjoyed parties.

Ashley? Heck, she'd plan the party!

What a remarkable young woman! I hope that 18 year old appreciates what she did for her. The outcome could have been tragic had your daughter not had the courage to step in!

It is so refreshing to hear stories about the "good things" our young adult kids do while even in clubs and bars where things do happen -the things we parents really don't want to know about!:).
Your daughters' friends sound like good friends also. I aways feel better when my son is out with his core friends.

Good for her , I just love to hear of young women standing up and being strong. She sounds like a great young lady!

I sure can't say that my daughter usually ends up being the designated driver, she has got the party gene ! LOL Mind you if she is she takes it very seriously. She too has grown into a very responsible young woman who will not stand by and see a wrong being done.

The kids she hangs with have a great way of handling the drinking and driving thing. Every time they go out someone volunteers to be the designated driver (DD). The deal is, if you are the DD this time, next time out all your drinks are paid for by the group. Being starving students, they fight over being DD! LOL !

Again Colleen, you have every right to be proud , she sounds wonderful !

That 18 yr old drunk girl is very lucky your daughter was there. I can only imagine what could have happened to her. You raised a good girl!

Sounds like you taught her well. The local bar gives free soda pop to the DD. Plain good business to help your customers stay alive and out of jail.

I remember when DS #1 was in fifth grade, I told him he had to pick a sport for the year, any sport. He chose baseball (never played it before). Not athletic at all. I warned him he would be playing with kids who had lived and breathed it before they could walk and he was OK with that (i.e. had NO frigging clue what he signed up for). Of course he struggled, but I had warned the league that he was a non-player and they wisely put him with a coach who was more interested in character building than winning.

One day the coach was speaking to the team, and some of the boys were goofing off. My son told them off, that they were being disrespectful and should be listening to the coach. They straightened out.

He got the Best Sportsman award for that one.

I can only hope that incident shows that he has some of Colleen's daughters' stuff when that kind of incident goes down!
