I'm so proud of my grandson!

Luke has always been a good kid, but he topped himself this time! We always hear about the bad things kids do, so I wanted to share something good. I'm glad the local newspaper felt the same. Besides, I'm bragging!

Good for both of you! A lot of women just can't give up their authority in the kitchen, just like a lot of men think of cooking as something they shouldn't be expected to do. imo, both groups are missing a lot of fun. DH took over the grocery shopping shortly after he retired. The first few months were both exasperating and hilarious, but he's gotten to be very good at it. Of course an incentive is that if he wants 'junk food' like ice cream or potato chips, he has to buy it himself. He doesn't do a lot of cooking but he did learn to read a recipe... as long as I annotate it as to pan size and list the exact order of steps. Some time ago Suzi mentioned writing everything down that she wanted to remember. I'm trying to do that with all the kitchen details and recipes. A lot of my cooking is seasoned with a 'dash' of this or a 'glug' of that, so I'm having to measure and experiment before the recipe can be used by anyone else.

I don't grow gladiolas since I can't be bothered digging the bulbs in fall but that combo pic of the Stokesia, yarrow (Coronation Gold?) & glad is a stunning combination of color. The brick walkway makes a lovely textural contrast. Well done you!

Congratulations, Deeby! I remember the feeling of shock several years ago, that seeds I'd saved actually sprouted and grew. (Mine were descendents of some grape tomatoes that volunteered in my compost area.)

I lurk pretty often but I seldom post, so maybe that is why I like it better, seems to me it is easier to post a message, it's easier to start a thread. I love the like button, I like the fact that I can respond multiple times to the same post without altering the heading, I like that when I am through typing this all I have to do is hit submit, I don't have to preview and submit, and then back twice to the page, It just seems easier to use to me, but like I said I don't really use it that much.

What a great kid, and cute,too! Sounds like Luke and his team mates already know what some adults never learn--the value of working together and having empathy for others. You should be proud.

I'm glad your grandson was so generous. It also sounds like the whole team deserves a pat on the back for wanting him to have this opportunity. Some adults are doing a good job training these kids.

To me, that's better than any academic or sports achievement! You have every right to be very proud of that sweet boy. Good on him, as Thom Hartmann would say.

Luke's team is quite incredible. The coaches are amazing. Every child plays every game, there is no showboating allowed. Many youth sports coaches could learn a thing or two from them. The result? They're undefeated! Trust me, they aren't the most talented kids in the league, either.
