Where did you buy your vanity?

We're beginning to make purchasing decisions for our family bathroom. Other than the big box stores, where have you found your vanity cabinets? I'm looking for a 36" wide cabinet in an espresso stain, probably with a cultured stone countertop.

I've seen something I like at Home Expo. Just wondering what my other options are.

I don't know where you live, but if you have a Dixieline, they have a complete design center such as Home Expo.

You can also find a few at Lowe's, but I don't know if they have what you want in the stain/top.

If you're not wanting to spend a lot of money, check out Habitat for Humaity. You may not find exactly what you want, but they get new donations from the big box stores. Also lots of used, but in good condition, vanities. You could refinish the vanity if you find the top you are looking for.

We had both of ours made by a local cabinetmaker. We are tall and wanted a nonstandard height. The cost wasn't much more than a semi-custom from one of the larger cabinet suppliers.

The local store is "The Powder Room" 540 N. Santa Cruz Avenue, Suite A Los Gatos, CA 95030 I met the owner, who was extremely helpful. I am pretty excited by the Ronbow vanity and I'll take DH to her showroom. She also had a Toto toilet complete with a washlet in her bathroom with the Fairmont toilet topper and a Fairmont vanity. It was great seeing the American Standard Town Square toilet in person with the soft close seat and ADH height. It has a map score of 1,000 and I'm leaning towards this toilet over a Toto. The one vanity that really caught my attention is the Ronbow Adara vanity, which is available in a dark cherry and I'm seriously considering the Ronbow ceramic sink top (integral counter and sink). I think it will be a snap to clean. It's also available with a transitional glass door or solid doors (the solid doors are cheaper). I also liked their Asian-style vanity, but it doesn't come in a 48 inch size. I'm having some second thoughts about the carrera marble top due to the fact that this is the most heavily used bathroom in the house. Therefore, I found the sink top to be a great option functionally and aesthetically! I really got excited about it! The link below shows it in a lighter cinnamon color instead of the dark cherry. practigal: Your theory sounds good, but doesn't work in practice. The big box stores negotiate directly with quartz and other manufacturers. You can do that when you buy by the train car load. The manufacturer concedes prices, allowing the big boxes to remain profitable and still be less expensive than local fabricators. This doesn't only happen with the big boxes. I fabricated the Corian in a McDonalds 20 years ago. I picked up my material at the distributor as usual, but McDonalds had negotiated a price with DuPont that was considerably lower than what I would have usually paid. Then there are the sink promotions. The big boxes will negotiate a free sink that would cost a local fabricator $400.00 or so. This makes competing against them on price a tall order.

we've done a few butcher block tables and kitchen islands now. For anyone looking to build their own get a set of these clamps from Shopsmith. They really make the panels flatten out nicely and it helps to reduce the amount of finish planing you have to do at the end. They are relatively easy to set up as well. We had ours built too, we knew we wanted solid maple and we needed a linen hutch built as well. Good sturdy cabs...they'll be here a long time.

I'm going to place the order tomorrow to buy a Kohler vanity (Provinity). I'm in the SF Bay Area, and I'll buy it from Fixtures and Faucets in San Mateo. About 25% less than Kohler's retail price. Check Kohler's web site. They have beautiful vanities.

I'm an avid bargain hunter. I went to the Expo Design Center but the prices were out of this world for the product offered. If you aren't afraid of buying online, then find what you like at Expo, then shop it around.

I bought mine from Ebay express. It just arrived within 4 business days of ordering it. I saved a fortune and got a gorgeous vanity with the faucet and supply lines included. It's 33" wide. For the money you'd save, you could easily afford to change out the sink to one you prefer if you don't like the one that comes with it.

I also bought my sink for my master bath remodel 2 years ago from the same seller. There are many other sellers there as well with excellent reputations. Just make sure you do your research and read the fine print as with any product -- local or online.

I looked at many different places for months and months and can not tell you how many google searches I did.

But I ended up with:

1. 2 pedestal sinks so no vanity
2. 1 vanity we left as is and demo around it and installed new sink/faucet/countertop
3. 1 vanity I bought at The Great Indoors (took about 9 months for delivery, it is gorgeous though)
4. 1 I ordered from my plumbing supplier (another gorgeous vanity with beautiful craftmanship)
5. my bathroom was totally custom and my cabinet maker supplied the vanity.

Great indoors has some beautiful vanities at reasonable prices. Kohler is usually ridiculously expensive. I've heard Ace hardware carries extended vanity collections you can order too (may be cheaper.)

If you are okay with buying the cabinet and countertop separately, most kitchen cabinet manufacturers also make bathroom cabinets. We just completed our second bathroom remodel - for the first we used Kraftmaid cabinets. At kraftmaid.com under the "cabinet details" section you can find a pdf that shows all of their cabinet options for baths. Once I figured out what we wanted, I called around from their list of dealers to find the best price. The prices varied greatly by dealer, and the big box stores included fewer options in their regular price. Ended up purchasing from a local dealer.

For the second bathroom, we bought 2 cabinets made by Omega cabinetry. This bathroom was the master bath, so we figured we could be a little fancier. We are considering using this company for kitchen cabinets (down the road), and so saw this as an opportunity to try them out. Again, once we figured out what size/style we wanted, I called around to check on prices. These prices did not vary that much by store, and where we'd looked at the cabinets actually also had the best price.

We've been happy with both brands of cabinets. The Kraftmaid needed a few more touch ups with the stain pen than the Omega. The Omega has more features than the Kraftmaid (self closing drawers), but we paid more as well.

We bought the countertops seperately - once using a prefab granite top from Home Depot, and the other using a granite slab from a granite dealer.
