What dishwasher detergent to use in new Miele
Comments (41)I was using Finish Quantum power ball and salts from SOMAT as i have hard water. I began using finishing rinse aid as well as a no name brand but I don't notice the difference. But one thing that has happened is that the lower basket on RHS has rusted and now a prong has broken off. The rust showed up before and Miele replaced basket in first five years (of ten year warranty) but said no more. When this happened again four years later, I called Miele and while I was told when I purchased the machine to use FINISH, Miele is saying it has been reformatted and is causing the problem. That or the rinse aid. OR combo. I will be buying Miele Ultra Tabs from now on and being in Canada in a rural setting, I will have to get them from the co directly. (Note I have an 18 inch d/w). I do hope there is a way to cut the tabs in two as I really don't need that much detergent given size of loads....See MoreAnyone use dishwasher detergent as a laundry booster?
Comments (24)I agree that the dishwasher detergent is probably too harsh for clothes. I also want to point out that dishwashing liquid like Dawn causes too much sudsing, and can cavitate the pump on a regular washer, and should never ever be used in a HE washer. I use the soak cycle and either Clorox 2 or Oxiclean. For the worst I have a small stash of STPP, the phosphate compound removed from detergents to prevent algae overgrowth in waterways. I use it extremely sparingly, a teaspoon at a time as a laundry booster, just a couple times a year, if that often. I am still using the rinse only cycle with no spin before I wash my clothes. It seems to make a bigger difference than anything else. The clothes are submerged in water, not half-submerged. No way to alter the water level setting, as it does it by weight....See MoreUpdate on using dishwasher detergent in washer
Comments (16)I forgot to say -- I used the powder form of Cascade w/Dawn. I also forgot to say I soaked and washed the white clothes (all cotton) in hot water. plumbly, I have not wanted to use dishwasher tablets in the washer for the very reason you mention even though I washed the whites in hot water -- though I do use the Finish/Electrosol tablets (the grey/white/red'ball' ones) in the dishwasher. Several local stores, including BJ's, our favorite warehouse store, often sell them BOGO (Buy One, Get One free). Which is a fantastic bargain. Though my washer's hot water seems to get good and hot, the red ball is not needed in the washer and I'm not willing to risk any problem from it. suburbanmd, thank you for that link! It has a lot of valuable information. Thank you, May, for your kind words. I can't tell you how thrilled and relieved I was to see how clean the clothes came, and without any fading or discoloration! I hope your results are as effective if you choose to use Cascade as a detergent booster....See MoreBest dishwashing detergent for DW with stainless inside?
Comments (9)I have a GE Profile dishwasher with this same feature. You can ONLY use liquid detergent with the automatic dispense feature. I've been using Cascade Complete and also Jet Dry...that may be overkill but it has been working well. Read your manual because it does say not to mix detergents that have different cleaning actions...I don't know quite how to explain it.....but it's in the manual. You also do a test on your water to determine it's hardness so as to set how much detergent to dispense. By the time I went to use my washer, the little test strip was long gone. I called GE and they sent another one....See Moremr_wash
