Best dishwashing detergent for DW with stainless inside?

Our new DW (GE Cafe) has a feature where you can load it with an entire bottle of detergent. My DH is obsessed with picking just the right detergent RIGHT NOW - rather than trying out the Cascade we have and seeing how it works. LOL. So, if you have found a detergent that works especially well with a DW with stainless steel insides, please let me know ASAP, my dishes and glasses are stacking up! :)

That dishwasher seems to require liquid or gel. I have only used powdered or the little packets that have a powder/gel combo. I've used Cascade as well the generic brand from Wal-Mart. Personally, I don't think it makes a difference.

We use Cascade gel in our Bosch and it works well.

Personally I think the manufacturer recommendations for a specific brand are related to marketing and business partnerships more than what is the "best" detergent. I ignore those brand recommendations. The one thing I do know is that appliance sales people and repair people have always told me not to use a liquid. The liquids contain a wax or something that eventually creates clogs or other problems. I've never tried the tabs because I assume they also contain some kind of waxy substance. I've received free ones in the mail and toss them out. They also seem like a waste of money to make an easy task easier. (Same thing for the laundry pods). I've had a stainless interior Bosch for a couple of decades now. I've always used powdered Cascade and a separate rinse agent. Periodically I run a quick cycle with a cup of vinegar. The interior still looks great. BTW--when I bought my first Bosch, I was concerned that it only had a single compartment for detergent. The sales person explained that most manufacturers put two compartments in so that "they" could sell more detergent. It's unnecessary to use both compartments. I've tried using a single compartment in vacation rentals. Dishes were always clean. I don't know if the Jenn Air has one or two compartments.

Last night we had 4 extra people over for dinner, and the Miele Diamante was completely full to the max with dishes, bowls, pots/pans, glasses, cups, silverware and cutlery. We used the last half of the Miele Tab that was left over from the few demo tabs we had and ran the unit on the Pots & Pans program. Once again, everything came out clean and spotless. There are about 1-2 weeks worth of the Cascade Action Packs in the container, but I think once they are used up, I'll just get the box of Miele Tabs. Even though there are 60 tabs in the box, they are scored in the center so are easily broken in half, which really gives you 120 loads. I don't understand why they just don't make the Miele Tabs half the size to begin with, since it cleans just fine. That way you'd have 120 in the box (at the smaller size) and it would "look" to be better price, even though it is $30. The way it is now, you have 60 large tabs for $30, which seems expensive ($0.50 a tab). But when they are in half, you get 120 tabs at $0.25 each. You would of thought their marketing people would have realized this and made the boxes with 120 smaller tabs instead of 60 large tabs that can be broken in half.

@littlegreeny, what exactly came of those Reeva Dishwasher Pods? I remember seeing those a while ago, and then.. very similar soft tablets/pods at Sam's Club. They both look like Huish/Sun Formula's.. but I can't be too sure. KIK/Korex (another manufacturer altogether, used to make a lot of ALDI and Wal-Mart stuff. @larsi_gw's, Miele DW will hate it. But the Sun/Huish Store Brand Dishwasher Gel made for Aldi, Target, Safeway, Albertsons, and quite a few other stores, reminds me a lot of the Lime-Green Cascade Gel that a few of us love with STPP Added. It seems to have a little bit more chlorine content in the bottle, and you can certainly smell it. It also has a really nice, bleachy lemony scent. And from what I can recall, the Chlorine Bleach that is used is capable of breaking down Proteins & Starches, just like Cascade. For some of you, who liked the previous suggestion of Adding STPP + Cascade Gel, it could be another product worth trying. :-)

Ci_Lantro now why did I never think of using parchment. Thank you, I'll remember that and I bake sweet potatoes frequently. Cool that we have the same dishwasher and my water is very soft city water so maybe that is the difference. Sea Sea I haven't thought to check I dont know if my heater activates on the one hour cycle. I purge a few times using the one hour until the main wash cycle fills up but generally I'm in the kitchen anyway not like I'm actually babysitting lol. I did check the wash temp on this cycle but can't remember what it was. I'm sure though that it was an acceptable temp IMO or I wouldn't use it...you know my attraction to hot water. Lol. I'm gonna have to check the temp again now or I won't stop wondering. Haha. Bjorn, yes I remember when you bought your newer dishwasher, actually I think I remember when you were trying to decide which machine and how a quick cycle was important since you host large gatherings. Looks like this turned out to be very good choices for both of us. I don't do much entertaining but with a family of five and my two sons often visiting and the fact I cook every-single-day-of-my-life (hahaha) I do really need the quick cycle and I know you cook just as much for a lot of folks. I use Seventh Generation, but I think that is powder only.

With the all-stainless tub, you get better results with a rinse aid. I also use Seventh Generation, but I am having problems finding it lately.

We use powdered detergent. I thought that was recommended but I don't know why?
And for hard water we put some glass magic in the bottom of the dishwasher before starting (you can buy at Ace hardware). keeps hard water spots off glasses.
We also don't use the dry cycle.

I have a GE Profile dishwasher with this same feature. You can ONLY use liquid detergent with the automatic dispense feature. I've been using Cascade Complete and also Jet Dry...that may be overkill but it has been working well. Read your manual because it does say not to mix detergents that have different cleaning actions...I don't know quite how to explain it.....but it's in the manual. You also do a test on your water to determine it's hardness so as to set how much detergent to dispense. By the time I went to use my washer, the little test strip was long gone. I called GE and they sent another one.

I have a KA with SS interior. I've only ran the DW once (just installed... yay!) but it worked fine with Cascade gel and Jet Dry. The DW came with a sample of Jet Dry and instructions that I had to use a rinse aid with the SS interior -- the little insert made it sound like the rinse aid was more important than the particular type of detergent I used.

I have a new GE Profile...soooo quiet! I use the Cascade Complete ActionPacs...they seem to work quite well! I was told that powdered detergents clean better because they have enzymes that the gel and liquids do not have??? Did anyone else hear this?

I've come a long way since putting dish detergent in my first dishwasher and walking into a kitchen filled with soap bubbles!!! HA!

I use electrasol. Bought 20 cans of it (each with 85) just in case they discontinue it :) Love that stuff. no etching. dishes come out squeaky clean.

We have a relatively new bosch dw and it came with the recommendation of the finish detergent by electrasol. Have had great results and ours is stainless inside.
