Hey breezy! You and me both! LOL I had a different rainhead when we remodeled Mbath at previous house. It was also large and I loved it! Though when I washed my hair, I sometimes used DH's. ( I have very thick hair) We are probably still a month away of being in. The latests setback was the stair color. I told the GC I wanted kind of pecan colored to match my floor. Some how I ended up with BURGANDY! So, they were stripped and sanded and now 2 1/2 weeks later since starting the staining, they are the correct color. Sometimes I just want to pull my hair out! From 4" at narrowest to 6 3/4" at widest. I think it is a good idea to keep your tub deck narrow enough so that you can easily get in and out of your tub. We put in a slightly curved tub deck because it needed to be pretty narrow near the door opening, arching wider toward the middle of the tub. Our tub sits between two wall openings, with lots of space in front of the tub. So the deck starts out straight on both sides for a few inches, and then curves out to about 6 3/4" max. This has worked great for us because we can stand closer to the narrower part to enter the tub, but can put soap and stuff on the wider part. Before we remodeled our tub deck had a step, which made it difficult to get in and out of the tub. I would highly recommend never doing a step.

Now this is more like it: It's freestanding (though I don't care for this particular surround) and the backrest is what I find the ideal shape for two people side by side, with good back and shoulder support for both. Most tubs with this shape are like 5 feet wide which is not what I want; this one is just wide enough for two. The taper at the other end helps preserve water without getting too crowded, but is still wide and sloped enough to lean against when you want to face opposite directions. Still, it's the side by side configuration I like best. Two-person tubs where you face each other look great in pictures and in the showroom. Then you use one in real life only to find you have to SCREAM AT EACH OTHER to be heard over the roar of the jets. Although air jets may be a bit quieter than the water jets I've used. I could do without the huge ledge at the end of this tub though - what's that all about? I too can't find a tub that gets everything right.

@pennydesign, This question is based on another plan that I'm considering where I would keep a bath/shower combo in my main bathroom, but then add an esnuite to my master bedroom with a small dedictated shower: In this layout, I would only have room for a 15" deep vanity if I want 26" between a standard 32" tub and the vanity (so every inch counts). I could move the wall behind the vanity as a last resort if needed, but I'm trying to find a way to work within the existing footprint (which is why I'm looking at a 28" wide tub). Another alternative is to put the tub along the left wall with the window, but I'm not too keen on this idea because: I don't think I'd like to shower in front of a window that faces the street, especially at night time :S I don't think I'd want to deal with cleaning waterproof blinds that get wet all the time I don't really like the idea of frosting the window so that I can't see out any more
