Change of schedule

Not sure how I will manage....but come fall I probably will watch Jay, the news and then head to bed. Finding Conan isn't wearing well.....and Letterman...well fogedaboudit.

That means I will be up with the birds....might even see what's on the TV before 7 AM!!

What do you watch late at night?

Late is anything after 9 PM. Thank goodness for the DVR that comes with our satellite! We watch local news (live) until 7 (never turn on TV before 6), then watch (pre-recorded) Chris Matthews, Olbermann, Daily Show and Colbert, Movies on the weekends.

Jim's snoring in his chair by 9. I read until 11, usually, both of us up by 6.

Thank you all for your insight...These are all good reasons, and I inconveniences that I wouldn't have thought of. I'm glad to finally get the other side of the story. I personally wish that they would just pick one time year-round and stick with it! In answer to Hoptown's questions: Most city dwellers would be considered late sleepers...I get up at 5:00am, and I would expect that most people around here and in Washington get up about an hour after me. Technically explained, the Government's Daylight Savings Plan is based on shifting the "wasted" light in the morning (while they're sleeping) to the evening, when they can clearly use the daylight more productively, spending that valuable time riding around in golf carts, drinking martinis and brainstorming about important new laws to pass. And the savings doesn't stop there. By not having to turn the headlights on, the golf carts obviously do not have to be re-charged nearly as often, resulting in a $1.2 billion* dollar savings in electricity annually! (*Adjusted for price-gouging.) So you can see it's a simple, yet brilliant plan. And, if the Government says it saves us money, we should believe them...They've never lied to us before, right? ;) Take care, all.

It's really kind of interesting, isn't it? I'm trying to think of it as a cleansing of all weak plants from the garden! They have been through such extremes of temperature and other factors this winter (and spring!), only the fittest have actually survived. They may be a little wonky, but they are adapting.

"--(me) Yep, I caught that which is partly why I think Myfam was not so off in putting SM on (at least temporarily). I actually think there will be a whole lot of things that SM is angry about and going to crank up the revenge on. She can't be too happy over anything DD and Myfam got in the agreement especially the legal fees and the phone rights. SM is tossing witch fest tirades at school which is really I suppose upsetting to Myfam that the crazed lady making a scene and causing the fuss is DD's SM. i think it was more about getting SM off the school's back then it was about 'making SM happy'. There is nothing to say Myfam can't go over to school first thing Monday and adjust that contact list. She could admend it to list herself, DD's SD, Bio Dad, followed by a good friend or two and stipulate by order which is to be called first. She could then list last SM or she could ...opps, forgot to add her back on. As long as SM thinks she is now on list no real reason to inform her she's been taken off. I understand why Myfam likely did it. Poor lady has been through the mill with stress and worry this week and to get to lunch and hear SM is harassing and demanding the office now. It was a snap decision. If SM is left, it's still as I stated above, meaningless...no control, no authority to confer and or make any decisions...just the lady last on the list who may be contacted LAST if child needs something while at school. Odds of SM ever actually getting called are very low. Even if SM is called to pick DD up because she got sick at school except actually picking her up and taking DD home there's nothing else she can do. Myfam has sole medical decisions, SM can't even drive DD over to a dr (and sounds like even Dad would have to confer with Myfam if he wants to have DD treated). If she goes in, I'd be sure to remind the school that if teacher calls DAD to talk about the unkept issue that teacher does not have permission to speak to SM about the issue. They can leave a message with SM to have Dad call so and so...end of story. SM is nobody, no rights at all ... currently all SM has been granted is last to be notified for unexpected events (sick and needs to be picked up or similar trivial incidents) As far as the move. 99 miles is doable, just not maybe overly convenient for ol' Dad. Dad knew exactly what was in agreement when he signed it. Prior to signing it was the time to agrue 99 miles with Thursday night visitation schedule. Just means Dad has to get around earlier. Schools are usually out around 3pm ish, eh, he'll be home by 5pm ish. Will also have to get up earlier on Monday mornings, no big deal. SM was also present upon Dad's agreement, if picking up child 99 miles away was going to be an issue she certainly has shown no pre-concern. Maybe SM can hire somebody or have a friend pick up her own daughter while she has to go 99 miles to pick up SD. Seriously, the time to squeal is not immediately after signing agreement. Dad/SM can either trouble themselves to come get DD at school or they can cancel visit that evening. No one is denying them their right to scheduled visitation. I think Myfam said they currently rent their home. If she's serious about moving she can always think about breaking her lease and renting a place that 99 miles away until she can find and close on a house. Since orginal CO was stay within 100 miles and this agreement was no new restrictions I don't see a leg to stand on for Dad to object.

thank you momof4, that is my point exactly. I didn't think using the word protect would cause such controversy, but then look who started the controversy... nitpicking over the word I used. Really?? and the last I heard, women also hire attorney's. I'm sure there are women that have husbands/boyfriends that help them protect their interests legally. I'm working on a case where an ex husband is going to serve his ex wife papers related to their divorce. The ex wife is now in a relationship with a former District Attorney. I'm pretty sure that her boyfriend is going to guide her if she doesn't already have a lawyer. He may tell her what her rights are and explain the legal process to her if she doesn't already know. Lots of people don't know about the legal system, even when they do have a case.

Ditto to what Sally said. I'm under the covers by ten. I read in bed at night. I used to be a fan of Saturday Night Live, back in the John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Chevy Chase days, but I can';t make it to 11:30.

Has Jay moved to prime time yet? Maybe I'll watch. There is so little I enjoy on tv any more. It was better when it was free!

I agree with Linda. We're rarely in bed before 11:30, but don't care for Conan or Dave. If we watch tv anymore, it's only a few shows or news programs. Sad, isn't it? I will give Jay a try, we did enjoy his show semi-regularly. I think it's sad that we're seeing an end to scripted TV. Not that they're doing a very good job, but shows like "Monk" and lost need a place to be shown and writers need a job. Enough reality tv! It may be cheaper to produce, but it's so tiresome!

I'm old enough to remember when everything but old movies was live...oh and Kukla Fran and Ollie which came in from Chicago on the coaxial cable. Even drama shows were live. Certainly gave them immediacy!
Now even most "live" shows but for the local news is taped.
I have zero interest in people eating bugs, getting fired, winning some strange game on an island. I don't care who the bachlor chooses nor anything about bratty kids being transformed nor strange things decorators do to your house while you temporarily live in a tent.
I am still mourning LA Law, Seinfeld, Friends, Mash, Chicago Hope etc.
But I have watched mindless comedy after the news since Jerry Lester, Dagmar and Milton DeLugg invented the genre.....
But instead of mindless, it's been getting downright annoying.

I usually see the intro segement of Dave after the local news..but after that..It's morning....and sometimes I only make it past the weather on the News..LOL

I'll miss Leno too. I remember hearing Carson on in the living room while trying to fall asleep as a kid. Watched him in my younger days too. I thought it was the end when he retired but Leno came through and kept it going. Don't care for Conan at all.

I check out Animal Planet, History, or Discover before going to sleep. That or a movie if there is a good one on at the time.

Prime Time TV just isn't all that great anymore. I've been watching Cash Cab after work rather than the news the last couple of months.

Since Food Network's last year or so, you can add any kind of food challenge, any cake decorating show and anyone competing to be the next network star or the next top chef or the next person to get their recipe on a TGIFriday's menu. Sigh. Ace of Cakes is absolutely the worst, I detest him.

I don't like Conan either, or David Letterman, don't care about the World's Sexiest Beaches or spookiest cities. Sigh.

I read. I have hundreds of channels and there's still absolutely nothing on TV.....

I absolutely HATE "reality" TV...it's about as unreal as it can possibly be!

I turn to TCM (Turner Classic Movies) often, because I love old movies, and I really miss shows like Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. I like original ideas.

My kid loves "The Family Guy" and Tim likes "King of the Hill"....Personally, I hate all/most of those animated shows! LOL

Good thing I have gardening to do so I don't have to tune in to the mindlesss dribble that they air these days....

Got rid of the cable so we don't get any TV. Problem solved. Saved a whopping $21 bucks a month and hours of mindless drivel.
I read, garden, cook, or hang out here on the 'net.

Deanna, I didn't have TV for quite a long time because I couldn't afford it. I'd cancel it again in an instant, except Elery says he's got to have a TV to watch sports.

So, I keep it, but I seldom watch it. Well, I DO like Red Green on PBS....

It is so true what they say that there were more good shows on 3 channels "back in the day" than there are on 200 channels now. I like to record what I want to watch, like some of the food network shows, a few movies and then watch on my schedule and zoom past the commercials or anything I am not interested in on craft or cooking shows.

I watch the news at 11, and leave it on for Nightline at 11:35 if it's about something interesting. That and Saturday Night Live, that's it! The computer pretty much took care of the time I once spent watching television by the late 90s/early 2000s when things were already well on their way downhill, and "reality" tv was the final nail in the coffin. No "must watch" stuff for me since probably sometime in the 80s. It was indeed much better when there were only a few channels.

That said, these new flatscreen digital TVs are the best thing ever invented. The picture with an indoor antenna is beautiful! That, and they double as a giant computer monitor! LOL I cut my cable bill in half having only the computer hooked up to it. There's all sorts of things to be found online plus Netflix if I want to "watch" something.
