I use Norton internet security, it's an antivirus and firewall. I usually buy a 3 computer pack for $30. The only downside is you have 1 year total for all 3 computers, meaning the 1 year starts with the 1st install. They used to allow it as a full year per computer once it was installed on each computer, so I could install it on 2, then again on one a year later. For free AV my hubby uses Avast, for a free firewall zone alarm is fine. AVG is not as good as it used to be according to computer magazines. Make sure you do not install more then one of a certain type of program, if you want something for malaware, don't install more then one because you will then have problems. You can go here, I started it at the post by Hackman. While he suggests AVG and does not like Norton, I use Norton and don't like AVG. I installed AVG on 2 neighbors computers a few years ago, they both ended up infected. Could be user error, back then I found AVG was a bit hard to use for a novice. Hi Mikie, It is just the plain Norton Antivirus, no bells or whistles. In other words I do not have the Security one. In 2008 I was told it didn't have a firewall and later found out that it did. I just booted up tonight and the shield did not pop up at all and so the windows firewall is on. What I did was do a check disk and a defrag and now it is not popping up. That was weird. Still I think Norton might have had something to do with it as they have been known to have a firewall and not state it on the box. I know it is not good to have two firewalls going at the same time but since they do this stuff and don't inform the public I can't be sure if they changed their minds on this version and put one in with their updates. That is if they can do that. The intrusion prevention says that it automatically blocks internet attacks aimed at taking advantage of vulnerable programs. Detects and prevents attacks from threats already on an infected computer. It has antivirus, antispyware, advanced protection which says Intelligently monitors processes in real time to detect suspicious behavior and emerging threats. Uses Nortons SONAR technology. It has email message scanning and Norton Insight, which speeds up the scanning process and increases computer performance by identifying trusted files that do not need scanning. I just ran it and it says trusted 86 percent and scanning 14 percent. It also catches trojan horses like last year. It is a lot more fancier looking than 2008 and is very impressive looking but like you said I agree that they keep people in the dark about their product. It shows on the list of not having a firewall but their security one does have a firewall. Since they block incoming stuff that made me wonder about the firewall being stopped by Norton. Do they are do they not have some type of firewall and they call it something else. Your guess is as good as mine. ??????? thirdfrt!!!

well that would be a problem because you can not have 2 antivirus programs on your pc even if both are Norton, my guess is that comcast is letting you know it is available should you care to download it from them, but not installed automatically. I have comcast also and it is available but I choose not to download or use it, I use AVAST for my antivirus. you would need to decide which of the Norton versions you want on your pc, keep the one you paid for or fully remove it using the specific Norton issued removal tool and then install the version from comcast. Up to you. Removing any Norton can be tricky and often leaves remnants behind so doing it properly is very important.

I use Online Armor. I found it at the site linked below. (Scroll down. It's the third one listed.) What most caught my eye was the fact that it scored very well on the leak test(s). Kerio (my former FW) didn't, althought I've never had a real problem with the latter. OA can be a bit of a nag, esp. during installation of new software. But it's easily trained (by clicking "trust this program" and "remember my decision"). When OA pops up during an install you click "trust the program" and "install mode" and you won't be nagged through the rest of the installation. (Scroll down at the page linked below to find " Best 'Firewall Only' Configurations for Basic Protection and Less User Involvement" with an option for modifying OA to be less of a nag.) Originally I had Kerio and Avast. Then I switched to OA firewall and has issues between that and Avast. Others had similar problems. Since I didn't want to abandon OA, I ended up switching to Avira AV, which I like. But the vast majority apparently have not had any incompatibility issues between Avast and OA, so it may not be in your case if you decide to try it.
