Comcast... ? firewall

Comcast subscribers can get Internet Security with the subscription, Usually Norton Anti Virus and that security suite would include a firewall. Do you know what Anti Virus you have?

I just got 2010 Norton, antivirus installed.. but NOT through the Comcast offer which I've had for some time...

bunky, I personally will never recommend Norton to anyone. It slowed my computer down so bad that right now I'm trying to uninstall it. When I go to Add/Remove it tells me there was an error when I installed it! After all this time!! When you follow the directions they give you you just go in a complete circle. You end up back at Add/Remove and then you can start all over again. Never again wil I buy a Norton. Better listen to your son in law. LOL BT

Thanks for all the suggestions - I tried looking at the "Filter MAC Addresses" and not sure I am understanding - but I went to the web address for the router and found the place where you can select the option for "Only Allow Computers with MAC Address Listed Below to Connect" but that option was not selected and no addresses listed. So I didn't feel comfortable setting it up as opposed to adding another address if there'd already been some listed there. I did follow the instructions for finding the address on the laptop but the number looked a bit strange - just a bunch of zero's with an alpha character at the end which made me think maybe I hadn't found the actual address and of course that made me hesitant about adding to the router for fear I might foul up the 2 computers that are working correctly. I did try the 'flush' and powered everything back up in the sequence you gave me but same thing, and then had to do it again in order to get the 2 original computers back online. So now, I am debating the uninstall of the Lenovo ReadyConn - I may try that when I get the courage. OR I've been thinking that I might just be better off buying a new router. The one I have is 3 years old - if it's old for a router, then maybe that is my best bet and hope a new one will fix my issues. I can't thank you enough for all the help you've given. I'll keep working with this and trying and re-trying as I have time over the next few days. If/when I get this resolved I'll let you know what I've come up with. Thanks again for taking the time and making the effort to help - it is a great comfort to those of us that so desperately need it. Frances

Not so sure that version includes a Fire wall?

I don't think it does.

It depends on the exact product you have installed, there are 2 products:

1-- Norton Anti Virus 2010. No Firewall! in this product.

2-- Norton Internet Security 2010. This product includes a Firewall. See link for more.

.Just checked the box... It's Norton - Antivirus 2010 with Antispyware... so I guess no firewall.. BUT by just being on Comcast.. is there a firewall provided through them?

No, Comcast does not offer a Firewall. I would at least turn on the windows Firewall, others may ask you to download a third party firewall like zone alarm free and there are others too.

Thanx so much.. however.. today got a message from Comcast saying about their Norton Antivirus suite is now included with my internet... emailed them to see if that is "included" NOW .. without any further payment.. (Just got Norton on my own as mentioned above)!

well that would be a problem because you can not have 2 antivirus programs on your pc even if both are Norton, my guess is that comcast is letting you know it is available should you care to download it from them, but not installed automatically. I have comcast also and it is available but I choose not to download or use it, I use AVAST for my antivirus.

you would need to decide which of the Norton versions you want on your pc, keep the one you paid for or fully remove it using the specific Norton issued removal tool and then install the version from comcast. Up to you. Removing any Norton can be tricky and often leaves remnants behind so doing it properly is very important.
