Do I understand the main idea/motivation behind these changes correctly as: - move fridge to the other side of sink so that there is a better flow Fridge -> Sink -> Counter -> Range (I really like that!) - create larger continuous prep space between sink and range - move fridge closer to the dining area so people can grab drinks without going through kitchen - hide microwave from direct line of sight at the end of cabinet run My one concern is that I loose "Pots & Pans" 36" deep double drawer in this configuration. This is one thing that we really wanted. Lazy Susan does not work well for us as Pots & Pans solution... And I am also concerned that massive 36" deep fridge will create visual wall from the the patio/window/table to the kitchen. I would be less concerned if it was counter-depth fridge... So I'm wondering if there is a configuration that will achieve the above benefits but leave the massive fridge in the current place? Then it is accessible from the other side of the island (for grab-and-go) and from the kitchen, but does not dominate transition from kitchen to patio/window/table... Thank you again!

Hi all I would love some design assistance layout with our kitchen! We're a family of 6. Mainly eat at home. Cook and bake frequently. Can occasionally. Our home was built in 1890. A Minnesota farmhouse. We have a few acres. Our fairly large entry leads directly into our kitchen. 9' 2" ceilings We have a door opening into a library/sitting room also off the kitchen. I'd love a large island and sink under the window (probably the north window) We've considered all the appliances on one wall (north wall) Stove, sink, dishwasher, fridge from West to east. Island in the middle probably nothing on stairway wall. But considered fridge on that wall as well. Just add to this puzzle, about 2 years ago we purchased cabinets from Medallion (it's headquarters in our town) we've kept them in storage in one of our rooms... so whatever cabinets that we can use from our stash would be a bonus. We will order whatever we need. I planned on having to order everything for our island. We have the following cabinets (frameless) Upper: (2) 27" x 42" (1) 24" x 42 (1) 15" x 42 (1) 39x 42 Lowers: (1) 24x30 2 drawer base (1) 30 x 30 2 drawer base (1) 15" 4 drawer base (2) 27" base 1 drawer, 2 doors 36" sink base. So -- you have a Dining Room + Breakfast + Island seating? Do you really need three places for eating/sitting? What everyone is trying to tell you is that you cannot fit everything you want into your space as-is. Your aisles, in particular are too narrow, especially where you show seating and between the island and cooktop/sink wall. You have a lot of "wants" that need significant wall space and one of the things causing you issues. If you go with a range instead of a cooktop, for example, you would save 33" of needed wall space. Jan's idea of switching the Kitchen and Breakfast area probably gives you the best chance at getting all your "wants". Regarding your aisles...Aisles are measured to/from the things that stick out into them the farthest -- counter edges, appliances, etc. They are not measured b/w cabinets. Cabinet measurements only include the boxes; they do not include doors/drawer fronts or the 1.5" counter overhang. When there's an appliance such as a refrigerator or range that sticks out past the counters, that appliance becomes the item you measure from on that side. Unfortunately your original layout is more functional than the proposed. How about putting the table in the former kitchen space? Then I’d make a built in hutch in that area bumped into the powder room. Can you move the door to the sunroom to the mudroom? Then you can get some decent wall space in the former dining room for a new kitchen.
