Zep, Clean my Computer

Hey, Zep. I am on my old machine now. It is an IBM with Windows XP, about 7 yrs. old. I use it mostly to play games, (DH thinks that the games slow the PC down) and store stuff. It has 256MB Ram but I have had the message about virtual memory. I have the freebie AVG 8.5 and Super Anti Spy, which I don't think is working. Hope you can help me.

    Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe
    Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    Â Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    Â By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    Â Click on Install.
    Â It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    Â Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    Â Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    Â Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
    DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
    DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

    Trojan agent is a different one and very difficult to get rid of if you go on over to LzD you will see several threads there dedicated to trying to clean it out of a lot of pcs, so yes he does need to go there and ask Corrine for help it will not get clean with out special help. If you have ATF which we usually have you use at LzD you do not need ccleaner they are quite similar, you can use it to clear out the same things. And yes it is always best to run ATF or CC prior to running any thing else so that you have gotten rid of all that extra junk and the scans do not have to deal with it so the scanning takes less time. As you know he will have to follow the directions he is given at LzD explicitly to gain the full benefit of their expertise.

    I am suspicious that such a message is from MSE. I am inclined to think you have a virus. Download and run Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) and Super Antispyware (www.superantispyware.com) -- both free -- run their scans, and report back. And, as azinoh says, if you are running both Avast and MSE at the same time, stop: choose one and disable the other.

    First off lets get one thing perfectly clear I have NEVER claimed to be the ONLY person here HELPING, how absurd. I volunteer on numerous wonderful support/help forums with a multitude of absolutely wonderful knowledgeable people this one included. I never advise anyone to do or use something that I would not use myself and that will NOT change. And any time I see one recommended that I know has some problem I WILL with out doubt provide that info so that any person considering it will have full info to make an informed decision on that program themselves, with full knowledge. And I appreciate it when someone who knows something negative about a programs speaks up and provides that info, it is how we learn. IObit has been found guilty of several thefts of program material over the years this theft of malwarebytes is just one more. NOT the kind of people I want to entrust ANY ones pc to. Try reading the info provided about IOBit. I never mentioned you anywhere in my post, I simply referred to the program,(which I would have done no matter who posted about it, and have done in the past) no idea why on Earth you felt the need to slam me, but I am not the only one here you have done it to, it really does not surprise me.     Cleaning up computer from non-useful files

    Hmm, I just found out the way to find out where the files that Secunia is updating are located. If you right click on the program in Secunia, and then click on 'show details', it shows the location and you can double click on it. The Symantec location led me to a folder called Shared Symantec (which I did not see directly under Program Files, but it was under Common Files under Program Files). I deleted the whole folder. Hopefully it doesn't contain any files that I need seeing as it was 'shared'. I'll leave it in my recycling bin for awhile. Also I double-clicked the AVG location in Secunia, and deleted ALOT of AVG files. I guess I should have played around more, but sort of gave up when I didn't see anything under Program Files. Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

    Very nice, if you add more RAM (Memory) the computer will function much better you have a very small amount at 256MB, XP Will run on 512MB but bottom line is will run an perform better on 1Gig a byte, adding ram to a computer is the least expensive way to achieve greater performance to the computer.

    Scan you computer here it will scan for ram an should tell you what kind to get ect. See link below...

    Click Start, double click Control panel, in there look for Java looks like a a coffee cup double click it look for option to up date, only install Java un check any toolbars or additional software that wants to ride with it..

    and you know what would be really nice to say zep could you please help me rather than Zep, Clean my computer! I am sure it was not meant the way it sounds... but a please and thank you do mean an awful lot for those donating their time to help.

    Zep, I am back from vacation and ordered a new HDD for my desktop (old one died just out of warranty) from Tiger.Direct. I ordered the Western Digital Caviar 500GB, Serial ATA HD7200/16MB/SATA-3G. My HP book has good directions for removing the old one and installing a new one in its place. I may be coming back for help later when I'm ready to do the job. Didn't intend to highjack this thread, but just wanted to add my thanks to Zep for help I have received.
