Cleaning computer

I was told in my manual for my HP Pavilion s7310n Slimline to blow out inside of the computer with canned air. Does anyone know where I can go (on the internet) to see how to take the cover off my tower and where I should "blow out" the computer? Thanks for your time,

See link below for side panel removal. Shut down and remove the power cord before venturing inside. If the innards are quite dusty you should take the tower outside to blow it out. DO NOT allow the fans to spin freely under the air pressure, hold them with a finger or thumb. Pay particular attention to the heatsink which is under the fan on the motherboard as this dissipates the heat from the processor underneath and is the most important part.

If you take the tower outside and you live in a cold climate be sure not to start the computer for at least an hour after returning indoors so it can return to room temperature and any condensation will be dried off.

Hmm, I just found out the way to find out where the files that Secunia is updating are located. If you right click on the program in Secunia, and then click on 'show details', it shows the location and you can double click on it. The Symantec location led me to a folder called Shared Symantec (which I did not see directly under Program Files, but it was under Common Files under Program Files). I deleted the whole folder. Hopefully it doesn't contain any files that I need seeing as it was 'shared'. I'll leave it in my recycling bin for awhile. Also I double-clicked the AVG location in Secunia, and deleted ALOT of AVG files. I guess I should have played around more, but sort of gave up when I didn't see anything under Program Files. Thanks for your help.

Glad the problem was caused by Bad modem and it was fixed. We had similar problem about two months ago. Downloading slowness only happened between around 9:00am to 7:00pm, sometimes to the point we received nothing. Of course at first intenet provider denied they caused it. After we checked moden (it was a fairly new one), wireless SW, our computers, connectors from moden to cable, from cable to wall plugs...etc. it seems everything was good. I said it must caused by weather because we had record heat this summer. The look I got clearly indicated I was crazy. DH said we just needed to buy a brand new modern, or not to use internet during day time ( what a brilliant solution!!) I sometimes work from home, I HAVE TO use internet during day time. I called the internet provider for a house call. May be I sounded too crazy for them to deny an appointment. The service person checked everything as we did, everything was fine. Then he went up to attic. Came down said the connector between provider's cable to our house was too old and too small gaudge, it restricted signal flow when temperature went up. He replaced the connector with one that allows must higher amount of signal flow. The problem was solved. I was too happy to write down the name of the hardware he replaced with.

this may be the artilce about dial a fix. Broken Windows Fixed Quick with Dial-a-Fix dial a fix is a neat little tool and is used on the support forums, it is generally preferred that it be used with the guidance of support forum teams or from djlizards lunarsoft forum. It does basically what we have been doing by typing in the commands in command line but it does all the typing for you which is good because it is easy to type wrong of course. You can definitely try it just for this application. If you want to check out their forum here is the link Lunarsoft and a link to his wiki about dial-a-fix Dial-a-fix Lynn you could try going ahead to windows update and running it again it might give you the option to uncheck sp3 (to not install) if it does not and looks like it is going to install it you can always just hit cancel. OR another option is to go now and get that sp3 blocker tool I posted the link for in the sp3 thread and install that on your pc so that if it does try to install it that tool should block it.

Sock, I don't understand that. The inside should be cleaned out or the dust can clog things, especially your power supply fan, processor fan, and video card fan (if yours has one). I was going to vacuum mine a couple weeks ago, but my very techie cousin told me not to. He hasn't done it yet but said he would blow it out. That's done by using the blower end of the hose (not the suctioning) on the vacuum cleaner. He takes everything out to blow the individual cards and fans. Very messy, but he says it's the best way. If vacuuming (suctioning) is all you can do, then get it done rather than leave it so dusty inside. You especially want to vacuum the vented area in the back of the case. That you can see well and it always gets clogged with dust.

Zep516-- I am unable to open the file. For some reason I cannot open a pdf file. Is there a way to change that on my computer?

The link from owbwist worked for me, but only after waiting for about a minute, even though I have a very fast connection. As mentioned above, just make sure you have Adobe Reader installed.

If you do not have Adobe Reader it is suggested that you no not install it. AR is quite the hog now and hard to remove from your system if you so desire. In the alternative Foxit Reader is a free pdf application which is much more system friendly, and is regularly recommended here and at other forums.

I checked and I do have Adobe Reader 7.0.8. Should I uninstall it and then install the Foxit Reader? Will Foxit let me open pdf files?

I just re-read my last post. DUHHH, of course it will let me open a pdf file (sorry), but I do need to know if I should delete the Adobe?

You can have more than one pdf reader. If you do not need the space you can leave AR7 on your system if you want. All you would have to do is make Foxit your default reader during installation.

If you decide to uninstall, though I am still evaluating Revo Uninstaller I do have to admit that it did a quick and easy job of removing AR8 off my system. No special tools, uninstallers or techniques were required.
