what I always do is leave the memory card in the slot in the usb plug in memory card reader and do the safely remove icon and select the memory card reader, when it is safe to remove, I unplug the reader from the usb port then once it is removed I then take the memory card out of the reader. Has always worked fine for me. I do not have an actual card reader slot in my pc so I do have to use a usb plug in type card reader.

If you look in device manager on my Vista and XP too if I recall,, you can disable caching on the drive then you probably wouldn't need to use the safely remove icon.

If you got the message that you can't safely remove the card, wait for a few minutes and try again. If Windows still doesn't want to release the card, shutdown the computer then remove the card.

Like I say, after the trouble it caused,
I always just pull the card out now and all has been well.
I didn't see or remember reading that info and just came across it yesterday and found out why I had that problem.
I guess the safely remove was a no no for the card on here.

Yes, my card reader is built into the tower so I suppose that is why it makes a difference.
I use it for my flash drive.

I just remove my card, of course that doesn't mean it's the thing to do. I use the safely remove on my external hard drive.

Its an SOP that before removing your memory card on the memory card reader be sure to click on the safely remove button on your computer. It can ensure the safety of your memory to not lose any data or even prevent from damaging the memory card itself.

actually you have no idea what I read or did not read and of course I did read that I am not in the habit of ignoring information. The difference is that she uses a card reader that is built into her pc which is very different than using a separate usb plug in memory card reader. A stand alone usb reader would indeed need to have the safely remove icon used however plugging a memory card directly into a slot built into the pc would not necessarily need that step.
The safely remove icon is for use with usb plugged in devices.

so you did not read the part at the top with the date from 08 where we had been having a discussion about how to remove things using the safely remove icon???? I do recall the discussion we had been having about using the safely remove icon, in that discussion urlee jumped in to make the above comment. So to make things perfectly clear for you the original discussion was concerning the USE of the safely remove icon, not necessarily for use with a memory card, but in general how to use it.
This would be why in my response I mentioned the use of both a usb plug in reader and her built in card reader.
This whole post was not actually a question on her part but to say had she read her manual she would have seen that she did not need to use the safely remove icon for her memory card using her pc slot. Hence her "LOL"
