which way should the shower door open?
Comments (13)Ok, hmm. Davidro - here is the "whole area". The commode room door swing is reversed to open out from where it is drawn though. Terriks, to lean in and turn on the shower, one would have to have the door way open past 90 degrees if we did option 2. Whereas option 1, you would only have to open it a hair to reach in. dekeoboe - our controls and shower heads are already placed. things to think about for next time...sigh... How important is it that you turn on the water before getting in? I've always done that, but then again I've only ever had a tub/shower combo unit. Maybe this shower is big enough to turn it on without getting a face full of cold water....See MoreWhich Should I Choose Knob or Pull Handle?
Comments (19)I have three types: 6 in handles on the upper and big drawers, smaller 4 inch(same) handles on lower small drawers, and bird cage knobs on bottom cabinet doors. I love how they are all mixed up, but they came from the same line so they have the same feel, bottom line is it looks great if you dont use the same all the way around. If you decide on one, I like the pulls you picked. They look better on the upper cabinets....See MoreWhich way do faucets turn??
Comments (22)David Fine, if the faucets are now labeled incorrectly, you may find that the "button" that says "hot" or "cold" can be popped off of the handles and popped back onto the opposite one. I have purchased Sign of the Crab shower fixtures that have the white porcelain button, and then ordered buttons that say "Shower," "Rain Head," and "Hand Held" so that I can know which control I am turning on or off. So they must pop on and off. Maybe yours do, too....See MoreWhich faucet should I pick?
Comments (10)Do not offset the faucet. It will look odd as you suspect. Tons of people have a sink with an offset drain (including me) because it is a big advantage for the functionality of the sink. They don’t offset the faucet. The faucet should be centered. The splashing argument doesn’t make sense. If there will be splashing from the faucet (and with the depth of your sink, it will be unlikely to splash outside of the sink), the splashing will occur whether the faucet is centered or it is offset. I don’t even understand how offset placement would somehow avoid splashing, What position would you place the faucet to do that? Offset to the right? It would overshoot the drain. Offset to the left? It would be too far from the drain. Regardless of placement, a faucet swivels as part of its functionality to make the water go where it is needed, so there will be times it is over the drain and times when it isn’t. Also, will you have any other fixtures at the sink such as an disposal air switch, soap dispenser, hot water dispenser? Where do you place those if you’ve offset the faucet? In response to your original question about a polished nickel finish, I would not choose polished nickel for a kitchen faucet. It is higher maintenance than polished chrome or a stainless steel finish. Polished nickel will tarnish over time, and need polishing. I have polished nickel faucets in my bathroom, and they came with a protective finish which wore off after a couple years, so now the faucets tarnish. In a kitchen, faucets get much heavier use than a bathroom. Unfortunately, a stainless steel finish in a faucet is costly. If you don’t want to spend that, I recommend polished chrome. While it will show fingerprints, they are easily wiped with one swipe, and a polished chrome finish will stay gleaming forever. Edited to add: I do agree that your pic makes it seem you won’t have enough depth front-to-back for both the sink and the faucet behind it. It could just be the pic. What is the depth from the counter edge to the window? It may be that an apron front sink could give you an inch or so to fit the faucet, or alternatively you’ll have to bump out the sink base cabinet....See Morethetews
