best quality non porcelain tub and surround

Can anyone give me their take on a good quality one? I don't want the porcelain as I have brittle bones but I do like quality and good looks and references. I like the Swanstone look but there are no testimonials. Thanks if you can help.

What kind of tub do you need? Style, Size, skirted, undermount?

30 X 60 Clean lines and a minimum of work to keep up with it as I have back issues. Tile would be difficult for me to maintain so I figured a three sided surround and a left faucet tub but all that I see are rather blah.

Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?

In my Kohler cast iron shower pan, I use something called R.O.G.3 Its a spray. I can't remember how I came across it. Supposedly it is recommended by Kohler. It works well. I wash my light gray shower pan about once every 3 months. I am the only one using it and I don't go barefoot. So it stays very clean. I could wash it more often, but I can hardly tell the difference. I clean the walls about once or twice per year, because I wipe the entire shower down after every shower with a microfiber auto detailing towel that I got at The Rag Company. Wiping down everything prevents any build up of soap and keeps all areas from getting moldy. I turn my fan on, and run about 30 minutes, when I start my shower and have never had any mold issues in the bathroom. Nothing steams up. the towels I use for drying are: edgeless-avalanche-20-x-40-super-plush-drying-microfiber-towel I hang it over my glass shower door and it dries beautifully. When I wash the microfiber, I wash on hot water with only other microfiber products. You don't want to wash microfiber with cotton, etc, because the lint from these other fibers are believed to "clog" the grabbing capacity of the microfiber. I used a squeegee for a few months and hated the process. A towel is SO MUCH easier IMO.

No, but it is cold, doesn't have great non-slip surface for kids, and all the ones I have seen are shallow and not as nice for a bath. But I'm sure open to suggestions! Help choosing bath tub material. (porcelain, fiberglass, or acrylic)

I guess I had just been looking at Lowe's and HD to see that a porcelain tub is $255 and acrylic is $250. I figured that was pretty darn cheap and don't see a reason to not go that route. I'll have to look into cast vs regular steel to see what the price difference is. If it's big I'm not sure that I'm willing to spend a big chunk but I'll have to discuss it with my wife.

I hated my old cracked dirty grout for the tile in the tub/shower area in my 1980 bathroom. I went with ordering a Swanstone 3 sided surround kit at Lowes based on a recommendation in the old thread you can search for here "best bath remodeling decision" (it has 150 responses!). I got the tall shower niche as an extra from Swanstone.
The Kohler Archer tub is mentioned a lot on this forum and I believe it is your size. I got that & ordered online from HD's website with a 15% coupon code I got using the chat function on the site....I believe it is acrylic. It was funny to see the Home Depot delivery person walking up our driveway with the box on one shoulder and his other had free. There are threads about that tub here you can search. Here is my tub/shower walls. There are 100s of Swanstone finishes available. This is Prairie from their eco line.

I am very happy with both decisions and the materials. They are very easy to keep clean, much more so than the old tile and tub.
