Bath tub size
Comments (13)I was all ready to say "get the 66" tub", but if it's only for the toddlers and you never use it, a case could be made for the large sink/small tub setup. If it were for you, I'd choose a small but elegant 24" sink and go with the larger tub. Maybe it's a good idea even if it's just for the kids. Something like a vessel sink vanity (pic below) takes up only 24" of width, but has plenty of storage space, and you and everyone else who sees it will think "wow, nice sink!" instead of "gee, the sink is too small". If you're on a smaller budget, Ikea's Hollviken or sinks look and work great, and cost under $100. Another good option is a which makes the sink feel much wider than it is by extending over the toilet. Get one of these, and every time you stretch out luxuriously in your 66" tub, you'll be glad you didn't get a 30" sink.......See MoreKohler Greek tub as tub/shower combo
Comments (18)Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreGlass tile transition to tub surround for undermounterd tub
Comments (1)Does the joint where the glass wall tile meets the deck need a special glass molding? I would prefer none just glass tile to solid surface. You can run the wall tile right to the tub deck, and caulk the intersection with color and texture matched caulk. Borders/liners are added for aesthetic and transitional interest. Sometimes it's purely design, sometimes for function, sometimes a combination. If your glass tile can stand on its own, and you'd prefer it to do so, then let it. I've not ever seen a glass grab bar or hand rail. Clear polycarbonate (I think it was PC) yes, but glass, no. Mongo...See MoreKohler Cast Iron Tubs? Acrylic Tub? Americast?
Comments (13)My acrylic Bain Ultra air tub was set in a bed of mud with a piece of think plastic between the mud and tub. This was done for the ease of removing the tub if ever the need arises. It's as solid feeling on the bottom as my husband's Kohler cast iron tub. As for cleaning, that's a different story. You're not supposed to use anything abrasive on acrylic. Believe it or not, Scrubbing Bubbles is considered abrasive :( That's been my go to tub cleaner for years. To clean my acrylic tub RIGHT, I use Gel Gloss. It's a pain (literally!). You spray it on, let it sit, buff it and let it dry and then wipe the residue. When I'm in a pinch for time or physically limited, I will use Scrubbing Bubbles. There are very few non abrasive cleaners out there. One Bain Ultra suggested was Lemon scent Lysol. NOTHING works better than Scrubbing Bubbles!...See MoreTmnca
