Another AVG ?

I recently upgraded to AVG 8.0 and now I can't seem to use Tiny Pic or Photo Bucket for posting pics to forums. Is the AVG the culprit? Do I need to change some setting? I am really a dummy - so if anyone can explain in idiot terms, I'd would really appreciate it.

AVG is the subject of many computer users. Has AVG fallen behind, and is 8.0 an attempt to meet the competition?

I left them some time ago for PC Tools AntiVirus, and am very satisfied.

I dumped AVG and went with Avast.
Hate to have to learn all over to something different.

you would only have MSE if you went and downloaded it and installed it, the program does NOT come with windows. You would need to totally remove AVG when and if you do get MSE, as stated use the removal tool which you can find here. Antivirus Product Removal Tools Keep malwarebytes if that is actually what you have, it is difficult to know when you do not use the actual names in your post. What does this line that you posted mean??? "the malware small window at the bottom of my screen" are you referring to malwarebytes? or is it some rogue malware??? Tell us exactly what it is you see and what it goes to. Names of security programs are extremely important because the people that want to infect your computer with bad stuff create the bad stuff and put names on it that are very similar to real programs and if we do not know which you have well we can't really help. And zep is right the mini is not really meant to be a main computer it is small in every way not just size, it has a very small processor and since yours runs windows 7 it takes a lot to run that and the little mini will struggle. but you do need to tell us exactly what is slow, is it surfing the web, is it booting up, is it opening programs on it????

BT just make sure that staying where you are is not leaving you with out protection, if they are stopping the updates for the version you have you will be with out protection also. What you can do is go download the new version of AVG and save it to your pc but do not install it yet, disconnect from the internet, go to add remove programs and remove the old version then go install the new version, reboot the pc, connecting to the internet at reboot, then go get the updates for the new version by telling it to check for updates. Another alternative is once you have downloaded the new version to the pc immediately copy that to a cd/dvd or flash drive, so you have a back up copy, then go ahead and try the install of the new one with out removing the old one it may go smoothly for you and then you would be done, but if it did not, then just disconnect from the internet, go to add remove and remove all versions it shows of AVG, reboot (just to make sure) then pop in the backup you made of the new version and load it and install. NO need to go back on the internet while unprotected. I do that with my programs anyway, I make a back up copy just in case I should need them and not have to go back online to get them. And I agree any time I add or remove or make changes I do create a new restore point labeled so I know exactly where to go back to should I need to.

Revo uninstaller is sort of a combined way to uninstall programs and clean up the registry for that programs left overs and some of the left over files/folders it might leave. It's not always 100% effective but its better than windows uninstall - which is really just running the programmers uninstaller. You can try to use revo... I always run it on its most aggressive scan. . To me it sounds like you might need to reinstall AVG 12 the older version..... disable it.... uninstall it maybe with Revo first... then follow up with the AVG uninstall tool .. most want you to run that tool from safe mode. I do not know if what you are seeing is the real shield or if you have one of the fake AV infections which produces a fake shield it sounds like you do have one of the infections. Run malwarebytes asap and post the scan results here please. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. I have used AVG for years, including nersion 8. My Photobucket account works just like always. I don't think AVG is the issue. What specific issue do you have when posting pictures?

I did the update to AVG 8.0 and use photo bucket, Picasa2 etc. etc. no problems at all everything working as normal, and I also have Avast they work well together on my PC NP's, I doubt that it is AVG causing your problems, have you run it? through your system, maybe you picked up a Trojan they can cause lot's of problems....many ppl download these AV's and think that's the end of it...oh no! you need to actually let it scan you entire PC now and then....

Yes, have been for a long time, they do different things as I have it set to do, but both watch the interent sites for me, they work well together at least for me they do and both update daily...

that is a big giant major no no to have 2 fully running antivirus programs on a pc at the same time, you will eventually have problems as they both try to access the same info at the same time, you might have been real lucky so far but it is well known that is not advised. In fact each of those companies specifically say in their install directions NOT to have another active antivirus program on the pc.
If they are both updating daily automatically they are both running live and resident. Good luck with that.

I am not a novice on my PC, I have helped many techies over the years, and have had owned other PC's, no viruses get into my PC and I keep it in tip top running order, I install my own memory and do all maintaince myself, so worry about your PC not mine...okay? both of mine desktop and laptop are Perfect!!!

I don't think anybody was trying to infer that you don't know what you are doing with your computer. I congratulate you that you obviously have taught yourself so much about the computer. Would you be willing to at least tell us what two anti virus programs you are running at the same time, for those of us who always understood it wasn't a good thing to do? I for one, would really be interested to know what the programs are, that do not cause a problem. Hope you are willing to let us know.

Elaine if I may ask a question why would you want 2 anti virus programs?

You do not come here too often seeking help so you are obviously comfortable working with your computer. Plus you must be satisfied with the A/V program you are using so why risk a problem?

Conventional "wisdom" is use only one anti virus, likewise only one firewall.. whatever susieq does is her business, don't follow along, is my advice.

You are right - I am quite comfortable with my computer and happy running one anti virus which happens to be Avast. I intend to continue doing what I'm doing - but was just curious to hear what susieq07 was using. Like the old saying goes - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Forgot to mention, I'm still running AVG 7.5, because there is a problem with loading/installing 8.0, forget for the moment, some program conflict. I run Avast on another machine in the household. Both seem to work, but I have read somewhere that AVG uses/demands more core resources (RAM I suppose).

AVG is still supporting 7.5, but I don't know for how much longer.

Jerry_nj in answer to your specific query as to how much longer 7.5 is supported, according to the AVG forum admin they are saying at least till Dec.31,08 and they may push it later but at this time that is the date, you may get nag screens from it but it will still continue to work.
now I will quietly tiptoe back out and hope not to upset anyone ;-)
