Another AVG question....

Using XP and Free AVG. Here a while back there was a question about the free version of AVG saying that it showed that it was a trial version and not the free one, and there was a place to click for the free one...which I clicked and all was well. The last few days, I have been getting a message from AVG that it needed to be upgraded from 2014 to 2015....which made sense to me and I kept getting the message each time I turned on my computer. So..I upgraded to 2015...now, it says I have a trial version which expires in 29 days and there is no place to click for the free version. Should I uninstall this and go and find the free version again...I was a little leery about "upgrade", but the message kept appearing time after time...so I figured I was upgrading what I had....

One of the safest places to download genuine software with no unwanted installers or toolbars is Filehippo.

e,g, Search for "Filehippo free AVG 2015 32 bit" or 64bit.

The required download button is the top right green box that has the filename on it so you can double check it is the correct version.

This applies to all free software.

I would uninstall your current version and start over.

You need to make sure nothing is checked. I just downloaded Avast from filehippo and I had to uncheck two boxes. It was for chrome

that is a big giant major no no to have 2 fully running antivirus programs on a pc at the same time, you will eventually have problems as they both try to access the same info at the same time, you might have been real lucky so far but it is well known that is not advised. In fact each of those companies specifically say in their install directions NOT to have another active antivirus program on the pc. If they are both updating daily automatically they are both running live and resident. Good luck with that.

I had the same message, but reopened the AVG program and ran update again (10:28am EDT) and everything ran smoothly. If it was an AVG problem I think they fixed it.

OK, I understand and it makes sense. Sometimes, on these forums its easy to forget that its not just forum members and GW that can read posts. I'll try the other ways suggested. Thanks for all your time and the explanations. I've done some googling and I'm not seeing what would be expected from Zlob. No popups, nor sites that pop up telling me I've been infected and click here to remove. and I haven't been to any porn sites, unless you'd call searching for California King bedding on legitimate sites porn. What I am seeing is cursor not responding properly, and sometimes getting a strange mssg. on AVG antispy saying "connect to server" when I'm already connected and trying to run a search. Still under warranty but Best Buy Geek said it would take 7-10 days to diagnose. Yikes! Think I'll buy a new mouse in hopes that will help. I'm a Bills fan, so used to hoping for miracles. I should have said no sneaky hidden downloads and, of course, I also omitted to mention unchecking the usual unwanted "options".

Nothing against FileHippo but wouldn't it be simpler (and safer) to download from the AVG Free website? I've made it a personal policy to always download directly from the company or developer websites.
