can't uninstall AVG

My AVG was trying to do an update and I figured I might as well do the uninstall that I'd been intending to do. Whatever it was trying to install didn't do so correctly and now I get an error message 0xC0070643 when I'm trying to do the uninstall. What can I do? Isn't there another program that I can use to get rid of it. I've tried both going in thru control panel and also directly to the "uninstall" that came with it.

Found this note, regarding the error...which I hope I don't have some other kind of bad problem, as now i have no protection going. That "appcompat.txt" looks like it will be hard to manage! Oh me!!!

Nevermind~ I found the list of Corrine's anti-virus removal tools and found the one for AVG....got it taken care of! Sorry!

You might need to delete the contents of the folder before deleting the folder itself, one of those strange quirks of computers. If that fails start the confuser in Safe mode by tapping the F8 button on startup and do your thing. If you are at all concerned about editing your registry once the folder has gone you could use Ccleaner, it is a safe and very effective tool for removing all manner of odd files and fragments left on the computer over time. I run it with the default settings.

Woah now! I would not say that. Only one anti spyware is barely enough. Most people install 2 or 3 as these do not normally run unless to set them to run. Having more than one of these allows you to use either and if in doubt use both at any given time. There are many free ones to choose from, all with inherent strengths and weaknesses. There are also too many sound alikes which are bad news indeed so tread warily when deciding. Here are a few reputable ones I either do or have used on my computers Spywareblaster Spybot Search & Destroy Superantispyware AdAware 2007 I also had the free AVG anti spyware program installed and was quite happy with that. We'll see how good the reports are on version 8 of their Anti virus with anti spyware built in, hopefully it will be as good as both running separately.

Java Problems - can't access, can't uninstall

When I go to that page, it does not list my system information. So I clicked each additional suggestion. No luck. Specifics are: The Firefox plugin is enabled. Nothing happens when I try to open the Java panel. It won't open. The instructions for clearing the cache do not seem right. When I go to the Edit button, I do not have a + or option to expand. So I could not do that one. I did try to find it through tools - options - advanced - network. It says I have no cache being stored for on or offline (I had just run ccleaner before =- so that cleared the cache, I think). I still selected clear now - but I couldn't tell if anything happened. So all the options either showed no problem =- or I couldn't not execute them. Any pointers would be great. Thanks. Lynn.

Download Avast to the desktop once you do that you will have the Set-up file for Avast on your desktop. Don't double click it just yet. You will want to uninstall AVG first using AVG remover. Please see the link for AVG remover. On that page download the 32bit exe, AVG Remover this file will uninstall (all) of AVG. Once that is completed you can now double click the Avast Icon that you downloaded before and that will guide with Avast install instructions. Here is a link that might be useful: AVG REMOVER LINK
