I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Weedyacres, where did you find that? We just returned from a trip to France, where we saw a similar device: a glass panel that extends from the top of the tub to a point above the shower and fastened to the wall on a swivel. The panel with swivel mechanism is approximately 60-65 inches tall and 32" wide (I didn't have a measuring tape), which is enough to keep water off the floor. A gasket at the bottom of the panel makes a good seal with the top edge of the tub so that water does not leak onto the floor. It appeared that the glass was treated in some fashion because as it dried there was absolutely no streaking, despite the hard water. It is efficient, looks better and cleaner than a shower curtain. Now I want to know where to buy one for our bathroom remodel.

Oh this is a HUGE problem for me. I hate the way curtains look, but I hate the way glass doors/tracks have to be maintained. My Nana actually put a clear plastic liner and rod above and inside of the glass shower doors to keep it from getting icky, but you didn't see the curtain from the outside. I dunno... DH and I are getting ready to build in a year or two and we might put in a conch-style shower; you go into a tile entrance and go around a corner to a mosaic'd room. No doors, no curtains, just private, big and luxurious. But a lot of tile to clean... Right now in our guest bath we have a curved rod and curtain. Our master bath has doors. I try a different cleaner every month trying to find something suitable! I've hear Spot X is IT, but I can't find it! Blessings, Haley

We lived in Tokyo for a few years and one of the bathrooms in our apartment had a bathing area wet room. I think they are pre-fab kits, like a room within a room with tub and shower area and a door that seals tight with a gasket. There was a step up into the wet room. Luckily, I also had a daily housekeeper that cleaned whatever mess the kids made in that wet room! Imagine a bubble bath that can spread outside of the tub ... the kids loved it! Rest of the bathrooms had regular tub/showers.
