Tub/Shower Glass Enclosure vs Curtain

We are looking for advice regarding our tub/shower. We are totally renovating our small bathroom, but are unsure if we should use frameless sliding doors or a shower curtain. We are placing new tile, so we would like to show it off, but we are wary of how water sits in the sliding glass doors and the maintenance of the sliding doors. We are also trying to consider resale value. Which looks better to a potential buyer?

We just returned from a trip to France, where we saw a similar device: a glass panel that extends from the top of the tub to a point above the shower and fastened to the wall on a swivel. The panel with swivel mechanism is approximately 60-65 inches tall and 32" wide (I didn't have a measuring tape), which is enough to keep water off the floor. A gasket at the bottom of the panel makes a good seal with the top edge of the tub so that water does not leak onto the floor. It appeared that the glass was treated in some fashion because as it dried there was absolutely no streaking, despite the hard water.

It is efficient, looks better and cleaner than a shower curtain.

Now I want to know where to buy one for our bathroom remodel.

We're remodeling my Mom's condo bathroom and want to keep our choices budget friendly. We were going to go with a Sterling by Kohler tub/shower but it's special order for the size we want and a 21 day lead time. (we have next week off and want to get most done next week) The store does have an Aqua Glass tub/shower in stock which is more attractive in my opinion anyway. A couple reviews I read online said it was brittle, poor quality, etc. anyone here have any experience with Aqua Glass "styrene" product?

Oh this is a HUGE problem for me. I hate the way curtains look, but I hate the way glass doors/tracks have to be maintained. My Nana actually put a clear plastic liner and rod above and inside of the glass shower doors to keep it from getting icky, but you didn't see the curtain from the outside. I dunno... DH and I are getting ready to build in a year or two and we might put in a conch-style shower; you go into a tile entrance and go around a corner to a mosaic'd room. No doors, no curtains, just private, big and luxurious. But a lot of tile to clean... Right now in our guest bath we have a curved rod and curtain. Our master bath has doors. I try a different cleaner every month trying to find something suitable! I've hear Spot X is IT, but I can't find it! Blessings, Haley

I prefer a curtain. Easier to clean and with the right curtain, can look very classy indeed. Some of this will depend on the actual style of your bath, so if you'd like to drop in a photo of your actual bathtub, that would be cool. And as Mark pointed out, if one does need to bathe a toddler in one, a curtain is much more practical, so it will depend on if you foresee the need, or if you plan to sell in the near future, or if there's another appropriate toddler bathing spot in the house. The other thing I will note -- in one of the homes my parents had, the guest bath had a glass door. The crevices were a nuisance to clean. In fact, though my mother was a neatnik, there was always a tiny bit of bleah remaining...

Personal preference as others stated. I'd do a curtain..half glass-I'd get cold, personally, although the look is lovely..full glass-harder to clean, I think..curtain is the easiest for me, and I love shower curtains in general. But if you want clean look, and love glass-do glass. Depends on your convenience/preferences and your bathroom's style. What's In is less relevant. Many things are in as long as they work with a house.

I just googled "tub screen". Also, if you right click on the photo and select "properties" it'll tell you where on the web that one came from.

I think they're more common in Europe than here. I've seen them in hotel rooms there before.

One person's famous bath with that screen is available somewhere here on g'web...rococogurl's bath. Perfect execution of that picture--in fact, it could very well *be* that picture LOL...

Her blog is atticmag.com -- maybe you could contact her there and ask how she likes the setup after a few years of living with it.

I went with a shower curtain this time around. The glass was difficult to keep clean, especially the tract. I got the curved rod and do not feel that I am at any disadvantage by not having a glass door.

We will only get glass for the shower we'll put in the bathroom that is currently a half bath. The two other baths will get tubs with shower curtains.

The shower only bathroom will not be used all that often (but I still want it to look nice since it can be seen from the family room). The other two bathrooms (which I also want to look nice!) will see daily use. I would prefer the contents of the bathtub space (shampoo/conditioner bottles, soap, etc.) not be on full display to everyone using those bathrooms. The $ savings, and not having that extra glass to keep clean will be an added bonus!

I found exactly what I'm looking for -- but wow, is it expensive. $900 delivered to CA for a 32" X 62" high. Below is the link. I'll think about that.

I just found an even better source for the European-style tub screen at LineaAqua. Does anybody have experience with this company? They offer the tub screen plain or with a towel rack for less than half the price of the other outfit.

To sell our house, we too are renovating our bathroom. The tub currently has frame-style glass sliding doors (that are in great condition). The Realtor suggested we remove the doors because they were "out of date" and replace with a curtain. Seems silly to me!
