At the risk of sounding real dumb, what is the desktop tile??? Is a tile one of those squares that is displayed in a group after the PC boots up? With program names inside? Sometimes, when I booted up, a bunch of squares and rectangles appear together and they start programs when I touch them. They will have pgm names inside. I used to touch one that had IE inside but it was not an user friendly IE. I have not seen anything else with IE in it. But the squares with IE/etc no longer display any longer. I have no idea what I did but am now getting (when I boot up) a screen that looks like a desktop screen would look like in XP but with the PC Maker's Name (Toshiba) in the background and a handful of icons (Recycle Bin; Desktop Assist, etc). I think I ended here by touching one of the squares. But there is no (obvious) way to return back to the view that had all those squares. I tried touching from the left to the right and other combinations. No dice. Without the squares, I have not been able to get back into IE ever since (which is why I could not reply sooner); I am using another computer. One way to turn your open IE off.... is to touch top of the display and drag it down to the bottom of the display. 2nd way would be to touch left side of screen and drag slightly to right to open the history... and then touch and drag IE out and down to the bottom of the display. /// One way to find Windows Updates would be to touch upper right side of screen and drag slightly to the left.. there you will open the Charms Bar and see the search icon. you can disconnect an old machine from the web .... and not worry about security issues ... so use your old machine... disconnected ... with all its old programs ... and peripherals .... and just get a new machine .... for WWW work .... you would probably be amazed what you can get ... machine.. and memory-wise.. for a half or a quarter of what you invested in the old machine .... it really is mind bending ... then.. all you have to figure out.. is how to get info from one to the other ... and a memory stick.. or some such... will usually get around that ... you guys seem to be trapped in the one machine for everything issue ... if i liked to tour the woods in a 4 wheel truck .. i would have an old beat up one for two tracking and ditch driving... and a nicer newer one.. for the roads ... and work ... personally ... for the cost of W10 ... and the hours it will take an old 7 person to install and learn it... [not to mention the mind bending stress .. lol] ..... for about 300 bucks.. you can have a new machine and be enjoying both... inside a half day ... when its all said and done.. i would probably wait until 10 came out ... if you can wait that long ... right now.. an investment of a stand alone memory.. and full backup for the old machine on that..
