School activities that involve group efforts such as Band, Choir, Science Club? Math Club? DECA? (that's the international youth business group), or Girl Scouts?.

Babysitting?

Helping neighbors on a regular basis with chores?

Obviously, her school grades should be given.

A short 2-3 sentence blurb about her goals & why she wants a job would be good.

I'm trying to think back about with our own 3 kids...

Our DS started working at 12 as a model/actor & had an extensive resume by the time he was 17 so nothing there that might help your daughter. Our oldest daughter got her first job as as teen doing photography (she took baby pictures). She put together a portfolio of her work & just started going door-to-door. Our youngest DD, took the easy way out & just flipped her hair & batted her eyelashes until she got a job at the movie theater. rofl

I think stressing school activities is the best bet. Oh, if she served as a class officer that would be great. Honor Roll? Something else...has she done any traveling for a school sponsored event? If so, include that.

Tell her, "Good Luck!" Hope she finds something fun for the summer.

We don't have a farm. No babysitting either as no babysitting jobs at all in this area.

Our village only has a general store and gas station. LOL

As for school sports, she played on girls hockey team in 9th grade.

She does, however, take care of neighbour's cats when they're away (feed them, clean litter box, play with them).

Her overall average this year is 90 (so proud!). She had many achievement awards in 9th and 10th grades (those are listed on her resume).

Where would you indicate her average? Next to the name of her high school in Education area?

She has done volunteer work, which is indicated on her resume. Forty hours of volunteer work is NECESSARY for students in order to graduate. A student cannot graduate high school without those 40 hours.

She's looking for a part time or summer job at a fast food chain or grocery store or similar, right? I may be way off base here but does she really need a résumé for that? When my kids were in high school they didn't have résumés and no prospective employer asked for one or even cared if they didn't have experience.

My younger son worked at a movie theatre for about 8 months (no previous work experience). When he quit they felt he didn't give enough notice so when he went looking for another job he was afraid to put them down as a previous employer. I told him, put no previous experience. He then got a job at a restaurant.

I don't think most of these kinds of places that hire teens expect them to have work experience or are surprised when they don't. And I'd be pretty surprised if the manager at a McDonald's or the like would even take time to read a résumé beyond reading the actual application.

Anyway, maybe things are different in your area? But that's how it is here.

I agree with May, I have been taking applications from young and old for the last 3 weeks for summer help.
How someone acts and appears is the main thing I look for.
Is this person neat and clean? Dressed appropriately for job hunting? Can they answer my questions clearly and how is their smile. Does the person seem trustworthy and reliable?

I had a 19 y/o gal in last week. Nice appearance, great smile. I asked her, "what would make you a good employee for me?". Her answer touched every one of my requirements, I hired her immediately. The information on the application was fine, I didn't need a resume.

Each employer knows what type of person they are looking for and will evaluate applicants accordingly.

While it's not likely she'll need a resume, as most places have forms they want her to fill out, she can list any school organizations that she participated with, volunteer work, babysitting for people, etc.

We owned a store in a major mall and when we hired kids, I judged them on their interview, how they were groomed and if they had carefully filled out the application with as few spelling errors as possible. References were a much bigger deal, I called many a teacher, deacon or previous job to confirm their character. Here in Calif, an employer can legally only confirm employment and nothing more is required. If you were lucky enough to get someone who was chatty, you could ask if the person would be eligible for re-hire which would tell me if they actually valued that employee. Usually, I received minimal confirmation and I had to go with my gut instinct which served me well.

Here's my suggestion - If she's a confident person who can present herself well, she should introduce herself to the manager and ask for a more information about what positions or shifts are available, or anything else that's not already clearly posted on the "help wanted" sign. If she can chat it up a bit and make a positive impression, that'll probably go much farther than anything she could possibly put on the resume.

She could also include a 'Personal Character" section.
Quick learner, works well with others, team player, etc.
Particular areas where she excels (i.e. math, spelling).
Any experiences at home that might apply like cooking, gardening or specific responsibilities.

Although a resume isn't necessary, it looks impressive when a teenager has bothered to make one. It indicates education, motivation and organization. I've been helping hire teenagers for a summer job program, and the kids who come in wearing khakis and a nice, office appropriate shirt (as opposed to jeans or shorts and a tee shirt) and have a resume instantly get bumped to the very top of the list. Most kids come in wearing their street clothes and can't even finish filling out the application, as they didn't bring all the contact information. Simply having the resume, the right attire, and knowing what she's applying for will pretty much get her hired if there is an opening.

I do wonder about it going on to the other side of the page, though. That might be trying too hard. One page, listing school and volunteer activities, should do it. References can be a separate document, or just listed on the application. (She should be sure she has a copy of her own, as she'll need to reference it to fill out the applications.) OTOH, that's a nit-picky comment. See above.
