is she using the router provided by her fiber optic company? Is it verizon fios? I used to have fios and they provide a specific router that is set with special firmware for the fiber optic. You can get the router in wireless or wired when you order your fiber optic. Also for fiber optic especially verizon fios they come to your house and do the install and will set up the computer and router for you, has she already had her install done?

Is this Cisco router in addition to whatever the internet service provider gave your daughter as part of the installation? If it's the ISP's equipment, call their tech support folks for help.

She had to buy the router seperate. It's her local phone company she's getting the internet from. It just became available in her area a few months ago. It tells her she connected but she can't go onto the internet. She tried bypassing the router and plugging directly in computer but got nothing there.

that number you put on the router isnt a good vendor number in a search .... it looks like maybe mispelled Verizon .. if so she needs to contact Verizon or the router manufacturer Cisco, and let them open it to the world to talk her through the process of configuring it.

Hard to help when no one knows what you have there.. .who is the isp ?

Start with basic trouble shooting. The DSL modem has power (lights light up, typically all green). Phone line from wall is plugged into the correct place on the modem. Ethernet cable from modem to computer. The phone company typically has some kind of set up routine that must be followed for the modem to be "registered" on their system. Opening Internet Explorer should take her to the setup screen. Just follow the instructions. If that's not working she should contact Verizon's tech support.

The router can be set up after DSL is working.

it is fios but thru small phone co. We did everything we could think of and wouldn't work.Finally took computer into phone company and they have had it two days and can't figure it out.

no one offers FiOS but Verizon in US. Not sure what she is getting there it may be some type of fiber optic somewhere in her community but thus far Verizon is the only company that has fiber optic to the house or premises(FTTP), some have it to the street some to the neighborhood node(FTTN).

with Verizon FiOS they come to the house and run the cable in the house and put a new special type of box (ONT) on the outside of the house and install the software on the computer and set it up and install the special router before they leave, they also install a battery backup for the unit they put on the house because if the power goes out you lose phone and internet (fiber does not carry power like the old copper phone lines do), the battery backup usually holds for a few hours.
I had one of the first houses in the US installed with Verizon FiOS, I was a test house here in Texas. I loved having FiOS.

does she have a firewall running on it? has that been configured to allow connections?

with out knowing more about the ISP and connections she is dealing with hard to advise.

It's a real small phone company maybe there getting it from verizon but i do know they told her it's fiber optic cable. They did run the cable into the house as you said, and the box on the outside of house. She had to buy her own router and didn't have it there the day they came to run the cable. They came a day earlier then they said, they were. It's a desktop computer. Nothing they tried was making it work, repair man came out plugged in his laptop said, it was working so it must be her computer. The tech that works at phone co. is a friend of the family. He still hasn't find out why it will not connect.
