Oops, the title should be "30" tub!"

I don't have another suggestion... just yet except to say that I just installed the hourglass in my 3rd floor guest bath and while I haven't used it, my guest loved it. Its deep but roomy despite its narrow width. I am wondering why your guy prefers the duravit. Are there any other limitations than the height? I chose the hourglass partly because it had an intergal flange, but no apron and I wanted to build out a "wooden paneled wainscoting" on the front for aesthetic reasons.

I just went through this for my bathroom remodel!

My bath is super tiny and I only had 30" for the tub width in order to allow for proper clearances around the sink and toilet. I really wanted a soaker tub and don't care for whirlpool jetted style (for ease of cleaning and budget).

In the end, I optimized for materials and compromised on depth for cast iron. I ended up going with the 14'' deep cast iron Kohler Villager apron tub for my 3-wall alcove bath. I found it at Home Depot for about $325 including taxes, so I saved a BUNDLE (originally thinking a cast iron tub would run me over $750 and closer to $1k).

While I didn't get exactly what I wanted, the savings was well worth it. I guess I'll have to wait for the soaker tub in my next home (fingers crossed :)

The other option I considered was a Porcher drop-in cast-iron at 27 3/4'' width, but the length (59'') was pretty short for my space (66''). And it was so much more expensive to get something that wasn't perfect either.

sounds like even back in 08, people settled for the villager.

For what it's worth, most of the online places will ship a tub free if you ask them to. I shopped around and got pricing for my (rather large) order of bathroom fixtures and plumbing bits... when I told the sales reps that one of the retailers had offered free shipping on EVERYTHING (including tub and toilet) they agreed to do the same.

And man that Starck tub is sexy!

That Villager has a built in apron, so I don't want that.

The Duravit Starck tub has a major fatal flaw - the side opposite the drain is higher then the rest of the tub, and the places I spoke to about it say that they'd REQUIRE ME TO SIGN A RELEASE if they sold me that tub. They said that it's VERY difficult to install properly. I spoke to Duravit, and they are aware of the issue and said that there is a way to install it, and sent me a document which describes the technique. I don't want to screw with all that. So I'm back to the drawing board...

What was your concern/problem with the Kohler Hourglass? We just installed one (a 32", not a 30") and are very happy with it. It has the higher side you're looking for, it's under $1k, and is available without an apron, which you said you didn't want.

southerngalinnyc - I can't find the "New Town" tub on the Maax website. Hm. That costco one won't work because it's 32". Thanks for trying though!

Eric, I guess I changed my mind on the aesthetic a bit. I really like the clean lines on the Duravit. I bought the Hansgrohe Pura Vida line of fixtures and I think it would be nice to match those with a really clean looking tub too...

You should of said something before the remodel. I found several 30" wide rectangular soaker baths. They are in acrylic.

I have the Hydro Systems Lacey 66"x32". It is comfortable and has very clean lines. The construction seems to be of high quality. I do agree that it is expensive. Both it and the MTI Whirlpools Andrea 4 were the only tubs that fit my space. Both were approximately the same cost and the Lacey shipped in much less time. Good luck with your search.

The other option is if you are anywhere that has an architectural salvage yard is... go look! Maybe there is a wonderful old cast iron tub in there that is thin enough. (If you are into that vs. new.)

I ran into a width issue as well and didn't want to go to an acrylic or Americast tub, so am getting my old tub refinished black.

It is pretty easy to search by size at faucetdirect.com by the way.

Oh, and I love the subject line, especially with the exclamation point :) ... that happened to me too.. only the subject lines convert " to ' ... not such a good idea for a home improvement forum!

cinnamonsworld -> I'm going for a modern look in my bathroom, so the salvage yard thing won't work for me... It's a great idea though!

FYI all -> I'm leaning towards the Jason International tub. They have the size and aesthetic I like, and the price is sorta reasonable...

I'm still considering other options, in case anyone finds anything else!

You may have already moved forward with your remodel, but I wanted to say I completely understand what you were going through trying to find a good looking 30" tub.

I was about to give up myself when I lucked into finding the Exhibit 60x30 (IFS) tub from MAAX Professional. It's a great looking acrylic tub, with an integral flange to ensure water never leaks out around the seams. It's also 18" high, which should meet your height requirement. The price was quite reasonable too. Ours just was installed last week and so far we couldn't be happier.

It may be a bit tough to find, particularly on the east coast (my Ferguson store just started carrying it the month I ordered it), but I think it's worth the search. I find it looks much better than anything else I've seen in the price range for a 30" tub.
