i screwed up paint .....please help

Ok, I am currently building a house. I created two monster's. One room is paint sky blue on the top half of the wall and royal blue on the bottom half of the wall and the other room is hot pink on three walls and lime green on the forth wall. Here's where I screwed up!!! I told the painter to add a white strip of paint half way up all the way around the rooms 4 inches wide. The paint used was color accents by sherwin williams. I dont like it at all. he is saying the only way to fix it is to repaint all walls. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

If the main colours are flat latex, I'd think just painting the stripes would blend. Otherwise, no. If you're not convinced, you could ask him to just paint one wall to show you what it looks like.

The sky blue, royal blue, hot pink and lime green is the satin finish ColorAccents by Sherwin Williams. It is very very rich and thick. The white strip he painted across both rooms is the alabaster semi gloss. He stated that if I try and merely paint over it, it will "glow" through.

What would be wrong is reducing the tomatoes changes the acidity and therefore the safety of the recipe. Annie's recipe, as with other safe-tested recipes, is a fine balance of acid to low-acid vegetables. If you're within 24 hours it's OK to add the additional tomatoes and reprocess. Carol

Hello "flat"-fans...! I feel bad about your wall situation. I wish you would've came to our store! I would've strongly recommended the ACE Sensations flat (Scotchguard in it), or maybe a Satin-sheen "traditional" wall-paint. With kids in the house, flat just doesn't cut it. For an adults bedroom or office...fine. For a kids-room or family-room...no way! Gotta think "real-life" here. >>> I'd seriously use a Satin for your stairway. >>> The whole point of having a "sheen" in a paint is to resist the damage that requires you to "touch-up" a flat in the first place!! >>> TRUE...a flat does minimize wall imperfections, AND some grades are CHEAP... EXACTLY why builders like it! >>> MOST flats don't have the sheen to resist water penetration like a Semi-gloss does. S/G paints resist burnishing and clean very well. >>> TRUE...the higher the sheen, the more imperfections you'll notice. BUT...cleanability can't be beat. >>> If you've GOTTA have flat...check an ACE near you. The Sensations flat is superb. When dried for a couple weeks, we rubbed dirty motor-oil, tomato sauces, peanut-butter, crayons, etc. onto the film. With light wiping & 409 cleaner, it cleaned off great! It's about $7 more per gallon than the regular flat. >>> For touching up a Satin or S/G... use a small sponge with a bit of paint and lightly "dab" it on. Dh just came home & I asked him. This is my layman's version. Red paint is mostly colorant and so has less base paint in it and takes more to get a good cover. If you used 3 thick coats, it is probably just that, too thick & needs more cure time. On the spots not sticking, he said if they are truly not adhering, you have a problem and you should either scrape, strip or sand those spots until you get down to something solid, smooth the whole door & start over. If it's sticky, it will gum up the sandpaper, but can be done. Then, if you are using a neutral base paint, use a gray base primer and it will be easier to cover. What is the specific paint you were using, i.e. brand, type (acrylic latex, etc). He suggests you go back over it with an acrylic latex and you'll be fine.

Could he prime over the stripes before adding another coat of color to prevent the glow?

If you don't prime the entire wall, the finish will not look consistent. When my painters have had to touch up just a few imperfections on a satin finish, they have to do the whole wall.

Too bad you didn't take at look at the first wall they did with the special effect you specified.

Please don't beat yourself up about it! (I'm the expert on that.) I've read of even top megabucks designers having custom work ripped out when it didn't turn out as expected.

Have you considered a different color other than white for the band? (For instance, maybe a very dark blue in the blue room?) It may be worth trying & could save you having to repaint the entire rooms. Can you take a digital photo & Photoshop different bands to save the trial and error? I'd think you'd need some divider between the two colors in any case; What about a wooden chair rail? Or even a wallpaper border?

We like to play with color too; I'm sorry you're having problems.

Is it maybe the jarring of the bright white against the other strong colors? Could you like somebody else suggested paint it another color. For the green wall do the pink and for the pink wall do the green and in the blue room another shade of blue.

i screwed up paint .....please help
