Need Microsoft Word help PLEASE?

I am running windows 98, and things are going well.

I used the word program a while back, and before I was finished with the letter, a little paragraph sign, I believe has inserted itself at the end and beginning of every sentence, along with a dot between every word of a document.

Anything and everything that I do gets me nowhere. Now, this isn't something I can deal with, can't delete a darn thing, and don't know how to get rid of this dilemma.

Is there someone out there that can assist me in cleaning the page of this mess?

Many thanks to you knowledgeable people, don't know what I would have done without you over the years, I am still learning after all this time.

What your seeing are the formatting marks. On the standard tool bar the option icon is listed as 'show all'. It looks like a backwards P with two legs and the P is filled in black. Just click the icon to toggle it on or off. Or, go to Windows help and search for 'show'.

Open Word, click Tools at the top of the screen, Click Options in the drop down menu. If the 'View' page is not on the top click the 'View' tab it to bring it on top. Now look down the left side to the second set of choices named 'Formatting marks'. Yours should have a tick in the 'Spaces' and 'Paragraph marks'. Click on each mark to remove it then click OK and you should be good to go.

I uninstalled Foxit Reader and reinstalled it according to your directions, and that worked, but do you or does anyone out there know how to make Word 2007 my default instead of Works? I teach in a very large high school. I am not the first to have the computer, and I think someone set the default to do this, but I cannot find a default that would indent like that. Would you happen to know where a default is that would cause something like this to happen? Or even tell me exactly what I do to just make it number the way it should for one paper? I have done it before, but more often than not, I have messed up the entire paper. Those rare times when it puts everything in order, I am not sure what I hit.

thanks for the replys, I received a reply over at MS, but I think it would take a Chinese to understand the solution. If I copy over to excel,and get them in order how do I get them back on the word program to print the avery labels? Regards, PK in La.

I have also read that but can't confirm it from malwarebytes, why not join an ask the question there. That file winword.exe is running from the programs file folder where it should be, so everything is pointing to a false positive. In the link below is Virus Total site go to the site, look for the browse function there, what you do is browse to the file winword.exe on your computer if it's still there and up - load the file to that site and see what the results are... It will be scanned by several virus tools and create a log for you. Are you sure you updated malwarebytes before you ran it. So lets see what malwarebytes says, and virus total, then if needed we can send you to another forum.

Thank you both very much, was sure it had to be a herky jerky finger thing, cuz I sure didn't do it on purpose!
So nice to have folks "in the know" on the other end of the keyboard to help those of us who are clueless!!!!!!!
